I'm a long time fan of Star Wars. I saw all the movies in the theatre and I
was thrilled when X-wing was released. I've played the entire game and am
now working my way through Imperial Pursuit. I've decided to go back &
re-play X-wing for points. I downloaded Deadeye.plt & cross.plt from
wpi.wpi.edu and I noticed in the pilot log that deadeye had destroyed 5
Nebulon B frigates. I've tried in my missions to do this and in spite of
launching 12 torpedoes and then fire lasers for at least 5 minutes I
counldn't get the shields down. Is there some trick like destroying the
shield generators on a Star Destroyer? Can one of you Top Aces help me
out?

No, there's not really a good all-around weak point on a frigate, although
I have heard of at least one blind spot. Just keep shooting; they can be
destroyed eventually. The blind spot sounded kind of neat, but also was
said to be hard to get to. Buzzing the frigate is more fun, anyway.

My thanks to Christopher Primeau and Derek Millar for responding to my post.
I tried out your suggestions to just keep firing at the frigate and that
worked but it took a VERY long time (the entire mission TOD 3-OP 6 took an
hour). I did notice one point that others may appreciate. When you
approach a frigate it fires a barrage of shots at you, then it stops
for a few seconds (possibly recharging) giving you some clear shots at
the frigate.

Once again thanks for responding.

Nope, just have to keep pummeling it. The weakest spot, however, is the thin
part where the boom connects to the engine...not much, but it is supposed to
be weaker...Beytons that, keep blasting more than 5 min

I'm a top ace :-) (So I'm proud of my achievements)

Err, We tested this theory early on in my career (using unlimited ammo, etc...) And found that a Nebulon-B takes about 40 torps to KILL (Not sure about getting shields down), Try it in an A-Wing, what was it - 110 concussion missiles...
probally lost count, oh well...

But in Imperial Pursuit you get a couple of opportunities, but I won't give them away. Mainly these arise when the good guys attack, you wait until it gets hull damage then spray it with laser shots to get the killing shot. I don't think there are any (or many) of these in the first 3 TODs, but I didn't try for them back then anyway. It could just be that the file (save game) was edited for effect or something. Its easy when your leading a B-Wing squadron to do it.
You get that in, you guessed it, B-Wing: TOD 5. Well, each B-Wing has 12 torps and there's 4 of you.

Nope. Only on the Star Destroyer do the marked vulnerable spots have _any_
effect (X-Wing Strategy Guide): you'll find frigate killing easier if you
don't concentrate on hitting specific bits.
