Many people do this differently, but I pencil on 11" x 17" 70 pound
Hammermill brite paper. (It's like the paper you use in a laserprinter, but
it's twice as big and a little thicker with a very smooth finish.) Then, I
ink it either with a brush or a pen. For pens, I use everthing from
ultra-fine .06's up to Sharpie markers. I have a crappy brush, and I use
cheap black pen ink (The kind you can get in any art supply store). When I
do that, I use an art table on a 35 degree incline.
But anyone can do comics with cheap suppies, and a flat table. It's the
inspiration that counts.
Lately, I've been scanning pencil drawings into Photoshop and coloring
them in there. It's alot more satisfying, because you see the results right
on the screen, and you can skip the inking step. Soon, my whole process
will be in the computer. You asked!
>>What kind of job do you have that you get to go to
>>Mac conventions? (I always wondered. :-)>>
I'm a graphic designer. I work at Kinko's in the Computer Services
department. I handle most of the layout and design. It's not very
glamorous, but it nearly pays the rent. The Mac convention was fun. Bill
Gates was there via satellite announcing his semi-buyout of Apple. Some
people boo'ed. Lot's of press. I was too busy chewing mentos.
BTW, Is your son an artist?
