Excerpt from the April 28, 1999 Reuters news story by Deborah Zabarenko:

MAKESHIFT SHRINE TO COLUMBINE MASSACRE GROWS

LITTLETON, Colo., (Reuters) -- Like some strange street fair of sorrow, the
makeshift shrine to the Columbine High School massacre grew larger Wednesday,
even as mourners took some of the wilting flowers away with them. . . .

Down the road at the Trinity Christian Center, more than 1,000 people
packed the former K-Mart variety store for the funeral of Steven Curnow, one of
15 people killed in a haze of bullets and bombs at the school on April 20.

Both inside at the funeral and outside in the park and schoolyard,
expressions of sadness ranged from the banal to the humorous to the deeply
moving.

Curnow's sister Nancy put together a slide show that was shown on
television monitors and giant screens at the memorial service, and later read
aloud from a letter she wrote to her slain brother.

She talked of his love for Star Wars movies and soccer, and said she would
miss him because now their mother would pick on her twice as much.

"Whenever I called you a dork and a moron, I was saying it with love, I
promise," Nancy Curnow said, raising a ghost of a chuckle from the tearful
crowd.
