According to "Empire Strikes Back", Yoda is Obi-Wan's trainer, not Qui-Gon
Jinn. The scene where Luke is on the brink of passing out, Obi-Wan appears to
him & says something about finding Yoda, "The one who trained me"...can
someone verify this?

I'm sure that Yoda and the other members of the Jedi Council have a part in
training all jedi trainees when they are very young. There comes a point in
their training where they are ready to go out into the universe with their
master as a padawan. OB1 as we have seen was Jinn's padawan.

If you listen to TPM you hear Obi-Wan mention Yoda's training to Qui-Gon.
Besides it would be hard for Luke to find Qui-Gon.

Obi-wan doesn't make a reference to some past training. He says "Master Yoda
says I need to ..."

In that instance, it could be like Yoda is the Jedi "Guidance Counselor"
looking over Qui-Gon's shoulder.

But there is some book out there that says Jedi have a teacher, then are taken
by a knight who become their mentors.

The stages of Jedi would be like knighthood, and then some. Obi-wan was a
learner under Yoda, and his status was like that of a page.

He was then taken as a Padawan by Qui-Gon. His status would be like a squire.
And then he becomes a knight. On top of that, knights can become masters. IF
they take and train a padawan.

This isn't in the novelization, but been quoted on the net. one of the many new
books.

I think you like me, because I'm a scoundrel.
No. Do, or do not. There is no try.

So what you are saying steve is that Qui-gon is to Obi-wan what Obi-wan was to
Luke. Just a mentor not a teacher? Yoda being the actual teaching dude? Makes
sence to me.
