Starwars enthousiast,
After searching for "Starwars" on the web,
we have found several Starwars related sites including yours.
We appriciate your devotion to Starwars related material but
unfortunately, after deliberation with our legal department, we have
decided that it's unacceptable to us to tolerate unofficial
Starwars activities on the Internet.
So we realy urge you to close down your site and stop
making pages on the web wich contain Starwars related items.
If you still wonder why, we want to point out the fact that you're
abusing our Starwars trademarks and our models.
Considering the fact that our latest law suite resulted in a fine of
$10.000 a day for both creator and internet-provider of a Starwars
site,
we trust in your cooperation in this matter.
Most sincerly,
William Sacull
(executive director Lucas Films LTD).

---The following is posted at Lucasarts site ---------
There has been quite a bit of confusion on the Internet regarding
Lucasfilm Ltd.'s position on Jason Ruspini's web page. Please allow
Lucasfilm Ltd. to clarify. First
and foremost, we are not shutting down Jason's website. We are sorry
for any confusion that may have emerged from any miscommunication on
our part.
Lucasfilm appreciates STAR WARS fans support and we want you to be
able to communicate with one another. Your energy and enthusiasm makes
you an
important part of our STAR WARS family. As you can understand, it is
important, as well, for Lucasfilm to protect the STAR WARS copyrights
and trademarks.
Since the Internet is growing so fast, we are in the process of
developing guidelines for how we can enhance the ability of STAR WARS
fans to communicate with
each other without infringing on STAR WARS copyrights and trademarks
and we hope to make these guidelines available in the near future.
As we prepare for the STAR WARS Trilogy Special Edition which will be
coming to theatres next year and as we begin pre-production on the
upcoming
prequels, we are now entering an exciting new STAR WARS era. Many
thanks for your continuing support and interest.

Now, check the date of the E-mail. Lucasfilm is apparently continuing
the shuting down process despite the claim Lucasarts made about
guideline.
or maybe Lucasfilm and LucasArts have different idea about this issue.
This is obviously a hoax. First of all, Sacull is Lucas spelled
backwards. Second, I highly doubt Lucas' legal team is as illiterate as
the person who composed this email. There are dozens of misspelled words
and the writing level is that of a sixth grader. Finally, it contradicts
their recent statement to rec.arts.sf.starwars.info.
Let's nip this one in the bud -- it's a hoax. It's a cinch to forge
email.

FLAME!!!!!!! YOU IDIOT!!! You didn't even read the original post!!!
DON'T respond to something without READING it first!!!!
Sorry, I just had to flame myself. It's true. I DIDN'T read the
original post before responding. I take back what I said about he
message being stupid. It is not. I STILL think it's a forgery, but
what I said was dumb.
Also, I still hold to my HUMBLE opinion about the "guidelines". That
part is fine as it was written.
P.S. Why am I writing HUMBLE in all caps? Maybe Grant McDonald can
answer that for everyone. How 'bout it Grant?

Also, why would someone write and say, "We searched for SW and found
your Web site."? Would you care is someone came up to you on the
street and said, "I looked in the phone book and found your phone
number."? NO! Even if it IS someone important, it is still an inane
message.

were going to be nothing more than vague legalese and would amount to
nothing.
I am changing my HUMBLE opinion. In my NEW HUMBLE opinion, Lucasfilm
will probably release nothing. They just said they would come up with
"guidelines" to get Web-site owners off their backs. It is just a
ploy. Just my two (2) cents (pennies).

I have been keeping a close eye on the web site situation and when I was
e-mailed a copy of this letter I was sure LucasFilm was saying one thing
and doing another. It wasn't until I ran a spell check on my own letter
(which included the original post) that I noticed all the spelling errors.
I doubt that a LucasFilms executive director would spell so badly (or at
the very least not know how to run a spell checker).
I agree... this post is a hoax.
But IMHO... I am not convinced that LucasArts is planning on handing out
some web site guidelines and then leaving us alone. If that were the
case.. why was the site at UPENN "asked" to discontinue? Why didn't
LucasFilm work with them to keep the site open? LucasFilms' response to
the closing of the UPENN site does NOT say WHY it was taken off the
internet. Anyone know ????
I am keeping an eye on this situation and the actions of LucasFilm. My
hope is that they DO work with the web site administrators. I would prefer
to work WITH LucasFilm and believe in their right to protect themselves in
a lawsuit happy country. I also respect the necessity of LucasFilm to
protect their copyrights.
But at the same time I feel that the fan's should be allowed to share
their love and enjoyment of Star Wars on the internet. I don't know about
the rest of you, but I have every book ever published, shelves full of
toys, a box full of the SW:CCG cards, the letter box AND pan & scan
versions of all three movies, tons of LucasArts software and I ordered my
Star Wars checks yesterday :) I have a lot of $$ invested here.
While we all wait on a final word from LucasFilm regarding their fan
created web site policy, I am keeping in contact with those interested in
this issue so that we can keep each other informed.
I welcome anyone with TRUTHFUL information to share it. Those who just
want to stir up trouble are asked to keep it to themselves.

IS THIS A JOKE!?!?!?!?!?
You completely butchered my message!!! To anyone reading the above
for the first time, I, Brewing Tea, did NOT write what is written
here. Someone (Fred, I think) changed it, for some reason.
To make a joke? I don't get it. To make a point?
Whatever your reason, please tell me what it was. I am not angry,
just confused.

No... it doesn't look like it... I would hope that the LFL lawyers
would know that Star Wars is two words... and could spell a little
better. <g>
