George, you asked about the SW kiddie books from Time Warner Kids. I
was aware of them being in production, but I have never actually seen
them myself. I do know that TW Kids had signed up with me and Rebecca
to do a series of kiddie science books based on STAR WARS, and that
was put on hold when the company went through some turmoil and
restructuring. Could be the kiddie books went the same way.
As for "finding" Jedi after they were all extinct, I was fairly
careful to show that many of the jedi trainees are people with the
"potential" to use the Force, not necessarily long-lost Jedi. We've
got a couple of those, too, but there are also trainees such as Dorsk
81 who has an aptitude for using the Force even though no one else in
his clone lineage had the same potential. The Force is in all things,
and strong in some people. With trillions upon trillions of living
beings in the galaxy, some of them are going to have the right
potential, regardless of whether they are descended from Jedi or not.
And no, sorry, I can't give anything away about the BLACK FLEET CRISIS
and THE HAND OF THRAWN -- come on, you guys should be having enough
trouble keeping up with the books that are *already published* to
worry about next year's novels! DISAPPEARING ACTS was the original
title for THE LOST ONES (Young Jedi Knights #3). I've never heard of
WOOKIEE TALES.
J.Shrick -- sorry to have to repeat myself here, but at this point it
really is impossible for a new author to sell and publish a STAR WARS
novel. The contracted novels in the series have already been assigned
through the release of the new movies, and because of the great
demand, the publisher and Lucasfilm will only consider works by
established authors. That means you need to spend your time
practiciing and publishing original novels so that when the SW series
opens up again, you'll have the credentials to show.

J Schrick -- there's no real easy way to get your book into print (the
easy way is the Dark Side anyway!) -- you just have to write and keep
writing and keep sending what you write to publishers. Don't worry,
though -- you'll see some of your "wish list" items in print.
JosefGolem, thanks for your comments about the Force. Much of what I
did came from a list of items directly from George Lucas describing
his thoughts on the Force. I agree with you that the Force is in
everything, and perhaps to some extent everyone could use some part of
it; however, certain people have a greater "aptitude" for using it,
and these become the most powerful Jedi.
Thanks for the comments on the Lost Ones, Oss -- don't worry, you're
safe in the SITH WAR...maybe.

Guys, you're duplicating efforts here -- there's already a "Kevin J.
Anderson" folder.
Echoing Steve Perry, there's no cause for arguing and insults when a
discussion will work just fine.
To MaryChain3 -- nobody "died and left me the lord of the STAR WARS
universe." If you think *I* or any other author has any control over
how many books get written or published in SW, you're not real clear
on how publishing and licensing works. Lucasfilm and Bantam likes my
writing, so they offer me projects; if the project looks interesting,
I agree to do it. If they like Steve Perry's writing, they offer HIM
a project. [I can't wait until y'all start arguing about SHADOWS OF
THE EMPIRE!<g>].
Shaking my head. . .

Thanks, Kevin, for inviting me to join you on the hot seat. Guess I'd
better stock up on asbestos clothing before the flaming begins . . .

I've been swamped with deadlines, so I haven't been too active. I may
end up primarily lurking until some major books are delivered by the
end of January.
To answer some of the questions:
Some of the original conceptions of Alderaan were painted during the
production of the actual films and were never used. After George told
us we could do a chapter on Alderaan, I showed him one of the archival
paintings we had found and asked him directly, "Could we use this as
the basis for Alderaan." He said, "Yes, that looks like Alderaan."
It's official.
Won't give any spoilers for the second series of YJK books. The first
six form a complete story arc, and the second five will be another
story arc with the same team of characters.
The Anakin/Anoth bit takes place after "Empire's End" and before JEDI
SEARCH.
Yoda was NOT from Dagobah. Period.
And now...back to the writing of the new novel!

Just a comment that needs to be said, I suppose.
When I do a STAR WARS project, I do it wholeheartedly and I always do
the best job I possibly can. I don't blow off a book or write it
without devoting my full attention and skills. The ones you like or
dislike should have more to do with which subjects are most
interesting to you, and should not at all have anything to do with how
much time I spent writing it or how many other projects I had at the
time. The Young Jedi books are *different* from Darksaber, or the
anthologies, or the McQuarrie book, but none of them is tossed off.
