Here are some more messages from Tom Veitch, author of the DARK EMPIRE
and TALES OF THE JEDI comic books and the Greedo story in TALES FROM
THE MOS EISLEY CANTINA. These are reposted from the America Online
Star Wars Forum.

the AOL SW Forum and when Tom responds, you can see the answer when I
repost the message here. Tom Veitch asks that you pose these
questions publicly, so everyone may see the answer. However, if you
really, really want to, you can e-mail him at tomv...@aol.com.

Subj: Shadows of the Chicken Jokes

<<I have a feeling there's going to be some very pissed off capons
knocking at your door pretty soon, Mr. Veitch. Wounded, hurt am I. I
have entertained, probably, maybe, at the very most, dozens (OK one
dozen, but it's a baker's dozen if you include my mom) with my chicken
jokes. I thought we were buds.>>

Enjoy those capons we did, SG. Very fine roasted, and the next day
chicken salad we made. A little Ewok pate on the side.

Seriously, though, good Star Wars jokes are hard to come by. I tried
all day yesterday to think of one, finally came up with one about two
Scottish bounty hunters in a bar, but unfortunately it transgressed
AOL's TOS, so I guess it'll have to wait. :-\

Maybe the Jedi Academy requires that you get so many Light Side merit
badges before you've completed the journey to the Light Side.
>>

Okay, so if you are introducing merit badges for Kevin's Jedi Academy,
that means I've got to rewrite EMPIRE'S END. ;-\

No problem! We'll add a scene where Luke creates "The Junior Jedi
Scouts" and starts writing his *Junior Jedi Handbook* ;-/

And the Empire's darksiders will have their own Boy Dark-Scouts, with
darkside merit badges and the Dark Jr Jedi Handbook, full of darkside
secrets and survival lore... ;-)

Hmmm...

This will be Cam's sequel to his work on Dark Empire. But the *story*
sequel to Dark Empire I and Dark Empire II is called Empire's End,
with fully-painted art by Jim Baikie, covers by Dorman.

Empire's End tells the continued story of all the main Star Wars
characters (Luke, Leia, Han, Emperor Palpatine, Chewie, Threepio,
Artoo, Mon Mothma, Lando, Wedge, Kam Solusar, Brand, Rayf, the
infamous darkside warriors, and others). EE also bridges the SW
continuity to Kevin Anderson's Jedi Academy trilogy.

Cam told me that the only character he is using from Dark Empire will
be the Fett-meister. Cam said he is doing a kind of "shoot-em up
Western" set in outer space.

For you guys who complain there isn't enough humor in Dark Empire,
this book could solve your problems. The writer, John Wagner, is one
of the creators of Judge Dredd, which, in its pre-Stallone incarnation
in the British comics newspaper 2000 AD, was quite funny.

Does that clear up your confusion, Dace?

Paul sez
>>Was at B Dalton today and saw the CD collection. Its packaged so you can
see the picture CD's. It was $60. I saw lots of SW stuff today, the CD's the
techmanual (looks great!! $35) and darksabre. But, I used self control
(smacking self upside head) and did'nt buy any. REALLY wanted to listen to
Empire's End Though. ::sigh:: thank God friday is payday!
<<

Paul...don't forget the forthcoming letterboxed videos...and the big
McQuarrie book for Christmas. ...On the other hand, $60 and $35 will
buy quite a few sixpacks of Tatooine Sandfrog Elixir.

Tasty!

Subj: Re: LIGHTSIDER

From KeithTan:

<<Do Luke and Ackbar find Anoth in Emperor's End or in Lightsider?>>

Keith, can you give me some more information on that? For some reason
"Luke and Ackbar finding Anoth" doesn't ring any bells in my addled
cyborg bio-construct.

From JackCamden:

<<Now that we're about at the eve of EMPIRE'S END #1 release, any more
to tell us about a possible release of LIGHTSIDER, rapidly becoming
the great lost STAR WARS story? Is Dark Horse still dithering? Are
they too busy writing a PLANET OF KADRIL ending? In short...what on
earth? Dying to know what happens in Bast Castle and all the rest.>>

Lightsider is alive and well. Trust me on that. (As you have trusted
me so many times before...and have I ever let you down? Well, have
I...punk?)

From SGUILFOYLE:

<<Is it significant that in the Dark Empire II AudioTapes, Luke turns
Kam Solusar to the Light Side during a Lightsaber battle, and their is
no mention of any games? I think there is some dithering going on.>>

The audiotapes contain a lot of errors. I have no say over Dark Empire
except in its original form, as a Dark Horse comic book. What others
have done to my story I find personally embarassing. For instance, I
am told by reputable sources, that the Italian translation is really
awful. (There, finally got that off my chest.)

Subj: Questions by Mail
Date: 95-10-22 18:19:33 EDT
From: Tom Veitch
Posted on: America Online

Here's a few questions that came in by snail-mail, from a dude named
Danny Vega:

1. Are the Qel-Dromas ancestors of Luke Skywalker?

Not. But possibly they are distantly related to Leia's stepfather. The
Qel-Dromas were an important family on Alderaan, four thousand years
before A New Hope.

2. How many Dark Lords of the Sith were there before Vader?

Quite a few. I've heard someone say there were only twelve, but that
can't be true. The authority over the Sith is passed from generation
to generation, so if there were (for example) five hundred generations
since the first DLOTS, then there could have been as many as 500.
However, some Jedi can live very long lives, spanning many
generations. A DLOTS of Yoda's race would hang on to his power perks
and Sith amulets ten or twenty times longer than the average Joe
Lightsaber. But all consider that bad Jedi seem to have severely
limited lifespans...Look at Exar Kun -- the fool was the DLOTS for
only a couple of years at most.

3. Are those Sith tattoos removable?

Try laser surgery. If that fails, try washing them off. (They come as
prizes in packs of Bubble Hutt Gum.)

4. In the Jedi Academy trilogy, Rayf, Vima-da-Boda, and Empatojayos
Brand are not mentioned. Where these Jedi killed?

See EMPIRE'S END for further details. Film at eleven.

5. In SWDE, in the opening rollup, it says after Thrawn's downfall
six fleet commanders and members of the Emperor's ruling circle staged
an attack on Coruscant. Will this ever be depicted in a comic or
novel?

I discussed it with my editor at one time. But nothing has been
planned, as far as I know.

6. Will Luke ever meet Jem in the Jedi afterlife?

Woo! ...Actually, that's a good question, because it raises the point
of what exactly *is* the Jedi afterlife. There are things in the films
that lead one to think the Jedi lose their definition as personalities
and merge with something "more powerful than you can imagine".

I rmember my brother Rick saying, after he saw ROJ, that the scene
with the spirits of Yoda, Ben, and Anakin smiling at the end, would be
better if behind them we could see legions of Jedi Knights, stretching
off into the sky. Since we didn't see those legions, one might assume
they all melted into the Big Light Puddle. :-)

7. What class is the Star Destroyer Eclipse?

Eclipse-Class Super Star Destroyer. Eclipse II, in Empire's End, is a
modified version, built from the original plans of the ship that was
destroyed in Dark Empire.

8. What are the chances of a Star Wars/Battlestar Galactica
crossover?

Unnnnh...how about twelve trillion to one against it? Now, as for
that Justice League/ Star Wars crossover, that's a whole other ball o'
Hutt-grease. ;-)

Subj: Jim Baikie

From: Tom Veitch

<< Somebody really forced Jim Baikie to try to make this look like DE
1 and 2, huh? It's a nice try, but it seems a bit forced...>>

You have to understand that Jim was Cam's teacher, and also the guy
who got Cam into comics. Much of Cam's style developed from the
influence of Baikie. So it was only natural to ask Jim to carry on for
Cam on the Dark Empire series.
