The time is 1970s, based on the clothing. During the opening credits,
students pass one another on stairways and hallways of a college, with
an apple often being passed from hand to hand. At the end if the
credits, the last student turns the apple to the camera. Carved into it
is the message "There is no gravity the earth sucks." At least one
character in the movie is a grad student majoring in English. I thought
perhaps that student was played by Elliot Gould, but I don't see
anything on his list at IMDB.com that matches.
