I recently read here discursions about what Ash says in Alien, if he says
"Kane's son" or "and then more" , Eelko de Vos says that "It gained some..."
(What this mind?).
I never see the american version of Alien but the version in spanish Ash
says "El hijo de Kane" that is "Kane's son" and I suppouse that the people
who bring the movie to Spain must have an original copy of the spript, so I
must think that this is what he say.
May be you have to change the script Eelko B-).

I definately heard 'Kane's son' last time I watched the footage last month.
It makes more sense to me....

In what scene exactly does Ash mention "Kane's son?" I've seen the movie
countless times, and you think I would have picked up something like that.
Then again, I wasn't looking, and I still pick up new things everytime I
watch it.

I concur. With my usually good hearing I also defenitely heard Ash
saying "Kane's son". If i remember correctly, this statement provoked
a response from Ripley who probably didn't like that thought.

Parker : This son of a bitch was HUGE! I mean... It's like a man, it's big!
Ash : Kane's son...
Ripley : Come one, Ash, I mean... Science department should be able to help
us. What can we do to drive it?
Ash : Yes, well, it's adapted remarkably well to our...atmosphere,
considering it's nutricial requirements. Anything we don't know
about is temperature.

The only question I have is, in what context ? Kane's son just doesn't make
sense. I'm not claiming anything (been a while since I last saw Alien) but it
seems out of context to me.

"This son of a bitch was HUGE! I mean... It's like a man, it's big"
"Kane's son"
?? Does that fit in ? I'd go for "it gained some" really; it just doesn't
feel right. Are you really sure it was Kane's son ?

In the scene where the remaining crew is discussing their options after
brett is caught by the alien.

Not one hundred percent sure but I think it is the scene when Parker comes back with the empty
flame gun (after Dallas bites it) and says "... No Dallas No Blood... The son of a bitch is
Huge.." Then I think that Ash interjects with "Kane's son".

Well, I just listened to it on tape, and yes, Ash says: "Kane's son..."

It makes sense in this way:
Parker says: "That son of a bitch is HUGE! [blabla]"
Ash refers to the 'son of a bitch' part, and says: "Kane's son..."

I'm convinced. After listening carefully to the conversation... I recommend
it to others! :)

Of course ... there could be a bit of intentional confusion on this point:
while there's a character named Kane, Ash could have meant _Cain_. As an
atheist, I wouldn't know if Cain 'actually' had a son or not, or if there
was anything terribly significant about any offspring of his, but assuming
that there is something of the sort in the bible, that might apply...

Wait a minute...I think I finally got it (after reading all these posts).

The alien came out of Kane (as if Kane gave birth to the Alien).

The alien is Kane's son.

Gee with son's like that, who needs enemies :)

It seemed to me that Ash, speaking under his breath, was talking out loud
to himself - refering to the genetic heritage of the new alien. It
contains parts of kane's DNA. It takes on some human characteristics as
part of its subsuming it host. It is genetically 'kane's son'. The
reference is both figurative and literal.

I think you're on to something here. The alien in Alien^3 takes on
some of the qualities of its dog host. Hmm gosh does that mean that
Species (see prev post) will be even more like an Aliens film than first
suggested? In that case we are talking about a sporatophyte infection...
that mutates the human genome. A LOT like Gibson's Alien III script!

BTW I really like Alien^3. I think it is a fine piece of work. So do a
lot of my friends. That doesn't preclude enjoyment of the other films,
it is just different, that's all. It is like a nightmare. The real story is
about the inmates and how they face their last battle with their pitiful
existences. There will be more Aliens for Aliens fans, I have no doubt about
it, but I think what people fear most is that bigger guns will NOT lead to
more excitement, and that it will be a waste of cash... instead of getting
more of Giger's vision onscreen, which is sadly absent!!!!
We'll pretend he didn't do Poltergeist 2 or 3, (whichever one had
the tribal ghosts).

GIGER GIGER GIGER!!! (release Species NOW!!) =)
