Brief Comments on Atlas Shrugged "Part I"

This was a mediocre dystopian movie about Ayn Rand's political ideas,
in which brilliant and beautiful independent thinkers achieve what is
great, and government and unions and such try to take them down. I
liked the trains and metal stuff, okay?
The film has been adapted from Rand's 40s/50s novel to portray a
depleted U.S. society and economy of the mid-to-late 2010s, in which
the price of a gallon of gas has reached more than $30, making trains
profitable again.
The smart aristocrats Dagne (trains) and Reardan (metals, as in for
the railroad tracks) team up against the intrusive forces constantly
trying to force them down to the lowest common denominator.
Production values here are medium-low. There was a decent fraction of
the budget given to the train sequences, short and fleeting though
they are.
Sex and violence: there's very little violence. There's little nudity
or steamy sex antics, however there is adultery portrayed deliberately
positively and apparently without caveat.
On balance I liked this movie because it is, unusually, about big and
political ideas, right or wrong. On those merits, to me it tends to
beat out the latest superhero reboot #4, or uninspired barbarian
cave-man sequel, or similar. I liked Atlas Shrugged okay, and I hope
it's successful enough for parts 2 and 3, which I gather are necessary
to complete the adaptation of Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged."
