Asking for name of a 1960s SF book

I'm trying to recall a book I read as a kid in the 60s. I thought the
title was "Space Opera" but the Vance novel isn't the right one.

The identifying details I can offer is the name Cruishank is a main
character last name and the star Sirus is a factor. It was a comedic
novel.

You might try rec.arts.sf.written, as *.misc doesn't really get a lot of
traffic. I'm afraid I don't recognize this one.

I don't recognize it, either. It may well have been part of the "space
opera" genre, as opposed to actually having the term "space opera" in the
title.
