On further thought, this deserves a longer response than I gave it.

I am, so far as I know, the only person on this newsgroup (pace Shawn)
with serious professional qualifications in economics; I've taught at
good schools, published articles in the journals, written books that
were well reviewed. Yet, oddly enough, quite a lot of people, I think
including Brian, feel free to reject my views on the subject in favor
of their own--even though most of them do not seem to have much if any
formal training in the field.

That is, I think, a good thing. One of the things I like about Usenet
is the general assumption that arguments are to be judged on their own
merits, not on the credentials of the poster. And, of course, for most
of the things we argue about, one could find someone whose credentials
were at least as good as mine who also disagrees with me.

But I do find it amusing that Brian thinks I'm the one guilty of
thinking I know more than the experts with whom I disagree.
