On the 11th, PRSFS held its first hybrid meeting. People who were
fully vaccinated were welcome to attend in person at the apartment of
a member. They were asked to wear a mask when not eating, drinking,
or talking. About ten people showed up. It was also a Zoom meeting,
hosted by the person whose apartment it was. About ten people,
including me, attended via Zoom. (I'm fully vaccinated. I attended
via Zoom because Metrorail has become all but unusable, even though
I'm very close to a Metro station and the meeting was even closer to
another.) The meeting lasted from 7:40 pm until 11:15 pm.

That club's meetings tend to be highly structured, with people taking
turns giving reviews of books, both old and new. After everyone who
wants to review a book has done so, reviews of movies, TV shows,
conventions, etc., are welcomed.

What are other SF clubs doing, or planning to soon do? Fully virtual?
Fully in-person? Hybrid? Suspended for the duration? Similarly with
other kinds of clubs. (A ham radio club I attend is still Zoom only.)
Thanks.

(Sorry for the on-topic message. I know that on-topic messages are
off-topic here. I promise to post something completely unrelated to
SF fandom here soon.)

Fanac, is what fen do, as there isn't a whole lot that fen don't do,
there isn't a whole lot that's off topic here.

SlavCon went fully online. It was during "full" lockdown, though.

I hope they at least broadcasted the audio on HF, if not SSTV.

Would a message consisting entirely of "This message is on-topic" be
off-topic?

MASSFILC has had meetings by Zoom every month since something like March
or April 2020. We're discussing making our Annual Meeting an in-person
meeting; the by-laws specify it has to be held in September or October.
I've posted a survey asking members whether they'd attend and how
various options (e.g., masks required, large meeting space, meeting
outdoors, etc.) would affect their likelihood of coming.

Only if it were, in fact, on topic.

Have there been any in-person SF conventions yet this year?

No. But the archived meetings are available online, via YouTube.
And they also host a ten-meter net, a two-meter net, and a CW net each
week, and have done so since long before the pandemic. Oddly, the CW
net is not over the air, but is online via TeamSpeak.

Yes, which would make it on topic. See

I finally attended an in-person non-family social event yesterday, for
the first time since February of last year. And I didn't wear a mask,
since everyone there (including me) were fully vaccinated. I helped a
fan pack a rented 30-foot (9.1 meter) truck at a self-storage place.
His wife and a friend were also there to help.

He drove me there. I brought my hand truck with me. The goal was to
put everything in the rented truck that won't fit in a car. There
was far too much stuff in the two storage units to fit everything in
the truck. And to get everything out that had to go into the truck,
almost everything else had to be removed too, and put back a few
hours later. Fortunately, it was a sunny day, with no wind, so there
was no harm in leaving stuff outdoors for a few hours.

In addition to the obvious uses of the hand truck, I used it to shove
things under tables as far back as possible and to pry a suitcase off
a desk to which it had somehow become firmly stuck, perhaps by the
desk's finish partly melting in the heat.

The friend drove me home about seven hours after I had been picked up.
Both drivers took I-66, which was a mistake since it's still being
"improved," as it has been for most of the past decade, with no end
in sight. But their smart phones had ordered them to take that route,
so of course they had no choice.

When I got home I wasn't hungry, but I was quite thirsty.

Yes.

I know of, at least, Fantasci in Raleigh, NC a month ago (May 21-23). And
DeepSouthCon is scheduled to be in person two weeks from now.
