EBay pulls listing for sandwich said to bear image of Virgin Mary

MIAMI (AFP) - A 10-year-old cheese sandwich a Florida woman says bears
the image of the Virgin Mary fetched a bid of 22,000 dollars on eBay
before the online auction house disqualified it, the Miami Herald
reported.

The image on the half-sandwich gets more pronounced every year,
according to owner Diana Duyser, 52, of Hollywood, Florida, who keeps
the grilled snack on her nightstand in a clear plastic box with cotton
balls.

She put the sandwich up for auction on eBay last week, drawing bids of
up to 22,000 dollars before the auction house pulled the listing on
Sunday, the daily said.

Duyser received an e-mail saying that eBay does not allow listings
intended as a joke.

"How could eBay do this to me?" the distraught woman asked the Herald.

Nonsense. I know a fellow who puts up the worst violin he can
possibly find towards the end of every March, with the bidding to
end on April 1st. It's absolutely understood that the item is
not actually for sale, and will be withdrawn before the end of
bidding. Bids have sometimes gone into six figures.

How does he describe the violin?

CNN just informed me that EBay has reinstituted the Divine Sandwich
auction.

I'm sick and tired of all the sax and violins on the internet.

I saw a picture on NBC last night, and it really looks a lot more like

: Now bid up to something like $100-million.

If you look at the bidding history, you see that most of the bids have
been pulled...either by the perpetrators, or by management. I'm sure
most of the bids were done as jokes, but the remaining bids
.......it's soooooo sick.
