So... any RAMmers seen it? Is it as bad as all the reviews make it out
to be?

I saw the second ep, first, then the first. Not too sure yet if it
is worth following.

I started to, but then I watched the original on PBS and was spoiled. It
was so well convolutedI didn't want to spoil my memory of it. Quit
watching.

The new Fantasy Island or the old? I loved the newer Fantasy Island
with Malcolm McDowell. The old one was just silly.

I don't know, I fell asleep during the program. sigh. TV may not be the
proper venue for the story.

I watched the whole thing and I want my six hours back. ;-)

It wasn't quite as bad as that, but the explanation of what the Village
really is was a big let down. The story is told with a lot of cuts back
and forth between several stories, and a lot of things happen that it's
hard to tell what's real or not, and that's an important clue to the
answer.

In the end it really wasn't worth it to me. If you loved the original
like I did, you'll be disappointed too. Like most remakes, they changed
so much that they lost what made the original so great.

In general that is true but I saw a remake last night that did justice to
the original while updating the concept. I refer to The Taking of Pelham 123
which had Walter Matthau in the original and Denzel Washington in the
remake. I liked the ending of the new one better than the original. Take
care

has changed - #6, the Village, #2, automobiles, children...

Mainly, I miss Patrick!

I'll go back to the original and enjoy it again. Then maybe in a couple
years I'll find the new series for rent (no ads) and try it again. The
ads blocked my attention -- what litte attention I was giving it.

I tried watching some of it last night. We'd recorded it and were at least
able to >>fast forward>> over the barrage of inane commercials ..Yikes
(Probably more commercial time than actual show time! I hate that.)

Anyhoo, I have to try again when I've spare time. It didn't grab me, not at
all. And I kept wondering what Sir Ian McKellen-- who's a great actor -- was
doing with this company of, um, sorta professional actors.. Maybe it was the
script that was bad or maybe both? From what little I saw, the acting and
writing left much to be desired..

Same boat here. I remember the original fondly. I wanted to like this one. I
watched it via OnDemand last night and gave up after about 45 minutes. It
was boring.

No! It was good. Except for the basic set-up, it is very different
from the original and that probably bothered some people.
The location and camera work at same were awesome. The atctng was
excellent, and I found this episodes just as mysterious and puzzling as
the originals.

I agree, but they did themselves no favors with the first hour. And I'm
pretty sure that the first ten minutes cost them every ADD viewer out
there. Talk about your S L O W starts...

I enjoyed it quite a bit once it got going, and it was fun to see Jesus
and Gandalf going at it.
