A TRUE STORY FROM... "THE HOUSTON HERALD NEWSPAPER" IN HOUSTON ,
TEXAS MARCH 5th, 2009

~ Last Thursday Night Around Midnight, A Woman From Houston, Texas Was
Arrested, Jailed, And Charged With Manslaughter For Shooting A Man 6 Times
In The Back As He Was Running Away With Her Purse.

~ The Following Monday Morning, The Woman Was Called In Front Of The
Arraignment Judge, Sworn In, And Asked To Explain Her Actions.

~ The Woman Replied, "I Was Standing At The Corner Bus Stop For About 15
Minutes, Waiting For The Bus To Take Me Home After Work. I Am A Waitress At
A Local Cafe...

~ I Was There Alone, So I Had My Right Hand On My Pistol, That Was In My
Purse, That Was Hung Over My Left Shoulder.

~ All Of A Sudden I Was Being Spun Around Hard To My Left. As I Caught My
Balance, I Saw A Man Running Away >From Me With My Purse..

~ I Looked Down At My Right Hand And I Saw That My Fingers Were Wrapped
Tightly Around My Pistol. The Next Thing I Remember Is Saying Out Loud, " No
Way Punk! Your Not Stealing My Pay Check And Tips."

~ I Raised My Right Hand, Pointed My Pistol At The Man Running Away From Me
With My Purse, And Squeezed The Trigger Of My Pistol 6 Times!

~ When Asked By The Arraignment Judge, "Why Did You Shoot The Man 6 Times?

~ The Woman Replied Under Oath, "Because, When I Pulled The Trigger Of My
Pistol The 7th Time, It Only Went Click

NO WAY ANY SUCH THING HAPPENED!!! As if the judge were
totally ignorant of the 5th Amendment and her attorney -
even if she only had a PD - would let her testify. But more
basic than that, an arraignment hearing is only to read the
complaint (usually waived by defense counsel) and to take
the plea (always Not Guilty) and for the judge to set (or
reset) bail.

As far as I can tell, this first appeared in a gun
advocates' forum. I am not going to spend $11.00 for a
subscription to the Houston Herald just to check their
archives. But to represent such stuff as true is offensive.

Even if gun advocates like the story, it should be noted
that at the very least the woman is guilty of manslaughter,
and more probably murder. On the facts stated, the man had
run away, had his back to her and posed no threat of
physical injury to her, so self defense is not available.
She fired more than once, so accident is not a defense. She
describes deliberate actions intended to cause serious
physical harm for the sole purpose of protecting money.
Guilty of murder.

An interesting analysis.

But if you check the reply to address of the original post, it is

That hardly inspires confidence.

This is a variation on an old joke that I heard many years ago. Usually the
subject of the story is said to be a blonde with the punchline showing her
stupidity. I never took it seriously. One clue is the capitalization of
every word. BTW as a Houstonian I never heard of the Herald. Take care

It is a variation on an old "blonde joke" I heard many years ago. The
punchline is the fact she doesn't know a revolver only hold six shots. The
arraignment scene is completely NOT is accordance with how we Texans do
court cases. That was the main clue this is supposed to be a joke. Take care

I think this is a weekly newspaper from Houston, MO ! Not Houston, TX <G>.
The articles are a mishmash of local type items that would never appear in a
big city Houston, Texas paper.

Town has some 2000 people in Texas County MO.
