My 2009 gift book was 'Dog On It' http://www.chetthedog.com by Spencer
Quinn. I also gave Ruth Downie's 'Medicus'.
I have no idea what I'm hoping to get. Whirled Peas perhaps.

I'm going to get my daughter a copy of _How the Grinch Stole
Christmas_ (50th anniversary edition) to read to the toddler.
I'm going to get my son-in-law a copy of _Oh, the Places You'll
Go!" for the same purpose. I don't think my husband and I are
going to get or give anything ... we're broke. Doesn't matter.
We ain't fussin' 'cause we've got us'n.

What a trip! Juxtaposition of thriller writer and Christmas story.

Yeah, I know what you mean about being broke. No one's getting anything
other than books. The fact that California is taxing online purchases
has put the kibosh on any other spending, too. Sheesh, where are we
now, 9.25%? sigh. Small wonder all I do is sit on the sofa and watch
NCIS reruns. I'm putting my library card to good use.

All of my extended family members are getting a copy of "Quarry," the
latest Level Best Books anthology of crime fiction by New England
writers. I have a short story in there about last year's ice storm.
I'm hoping to get that PD James book - "Talking about Detective Fiction."
Is that the book I am thinking I heard about on NPR the other day? If so,
then you can listen to it on BYU.org in three parts, if I recall. But my
mind doesn't hold onto much lately, I have information overload.

I'm giving my physicist son a biography of Paul Dirac and Lamb: The
Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal. My daughter gets
Women, Poverty and AIDS by Paul Farmer (from her wish list) and some
graphic novels.
For Christmas, I want many extra hours to read the books I already own :o)

I gave myself 'Classic Asian Salads' by Lee Geok Boi. See

I loved the incredible salads I ate in Thailand last month, even though
I have never been a salad person. I saw this book in stores in Bangkok,
but resisted it. After I came back, I looked at it on Amazon for weeks,
and finally broke down. It won't arrive until late January, unfortunately.
