We are reading what is called a Serial Novel by multiple female authors.
*Naked came the Phoenix* (2001) by Nevada Barr, J.D.Robb, Nancy Pickard,
Lisa Scottoline, Perri O'Shaughnessy, J.A.Jance, Faye Kellerman, Mary Jane
Clark, Marcia Talley, Anne Perry, Diana Gabaldon, Val McDermid, and Laurie
R.King.
*I'd kill for that* (2004) by Gayle Lynds, Rita Mae Brown, Marcia Talley,
Lisa Gardner, Linda Fairstein, Kay Hooper, Kathy Reich's, Julie Smith,
Heather Graham, Jennifer Crusie, Tina Wainscott, Anne Perry and Katherine
Neville.
We like the idea of 13 different female authors each writing a different
chapter in the same (1) murder mystery.
We also think that Marcia Talley did a good job of editing both novels.
It was very interesting to us, to see how each author brought their own
special feel to the story, especially as they were not allowed to see or
know what the other authors were writing unless it came before their chapter
in the book.
Now this has got us wondering just what the guys might come up with, if they
tried the same kind of idea!

Funny. Back in the '60's a group of guys, including our college friend,
George Vecsey, now outstanding sports reporter for the NYT,bet each
other that they could come up with a novel and make big bucks and all
they'd have to do was eadh write one chapter. This was the era of
Jacqueline Susann, Harold Robbins and a new freedom for graphic
sexuality in books. They titled it "Naked Came the Stranger", and in
fact, did sell quite a few copies due to some clever promotion and
probably the lure of a graphic sexual encounter in every chapter.

That the book had 13 authors was not originally revealed. They had a
fake-named busty blonde ringer doing interviews and appearrances. One
astute radio perrsonality, the late, lamented Long John Nebel, said to
her, "These chapters really don't make sense in any cohessive way."
She did the best she could, I suppose, although Long John remarked, "
For the author you don't seem to remember very much about your own
book."

and then there's the Dave Barry/Carl Hiassen etc version, "Naked Came
the Manatee" which was hilarious.

I loved that one. It prominently featured Marjory Stoneman Douglas, who
was a very real person and still living at the time they wrote that.
Plus a lot of action took place in the Grove, my old stomping grounds.
