I agree. Neither Willis nor Nolte do it for me either. If anything,
Willis might make a decent Peter Decker (and then that's a stretch),
but not Alex Delaware, and you're right, Willis' film personae is way
too arrogant and cavalier for the character.

Here are a couple of other suggestions that I think might work for Alex.
Liam Nelson, Daniel Day Lewis, Michael Keaton, Tom Berringer, Andy
Garcia, Alex Baldwin, Tim Mattheson, Aidan Quinn, Tim Robbins, Bill
Peterson, Kyle McLaughlin, Gary Sinisi, Kurt Russell or Matthew Modine.
Some of these men might be *too* good-looking though. Alex is attractive,
but I never pictured him as drop-dead georgeous.

As for Milo, I do like Jim Bellushi, but perhaps Bill Murray (if he
would play it straight), James Woods (if he were taller and heavier)
and maybe even Gary Olman or Tommy Lee Jones could make a good Milo.
What do you think?

Never imagined Milo quite that *big,* but it works.
Along those lines, another really large man that could
do Milo justice is Brian Dennehy.

I see soneone more like character actor Paul Sorvino. Big, but not too
big. For Alex I see maybe Richard Gere, sort of soft spoken but strong.
Just my .02 worth.

It may be just me but I always have pictured Alex as the Kellerman picture on the back of the book. Oh well.

Help! Who writes the Milo Sturgis books? All this talk about casting is
making me curious. I must read these books.

No, I've done that too. (One poster spoke of Kellerman casting himself,
too obviously, as Alex, as in "read me, see what a great, sensitive
therapist I am...") One thing I've been trying to figure out,
though...Way back before the books started, Alex had a beard which he
later shaved off. They never mention a moustache. However, he does have
enough chest hair for Robin to play at knitting it with chopsticks... No,
I'm not really obsessive over these books, I'm just currently in the
middle of re-reading them, so they're fresh in my mind ;)

The Milo Sturgis books are really the Alex Delaware books (although, as
you can tell by all the fascination, Milo is often the more interesting
character), written by Jonathan Kellerman. The complete series -- which
*must* be read in their proper order -- is 1) When the Bough Breaks; 2)
Blood Test; 3) Over the Edge; 4) Silent Partner; 5) Time Bomb; 6) Private
Eyes; 7) Devil's Waltz; 8) Bad Love; and this year's entre, 9) Self
Defense. He wrote one book out of the series called Butcher's Theater
which I've never read. By the way, his wife, Faye Kellerman, also has an
excellent series, which you may have seen people in this thread refer to.
Her series also involves a cop, but I won't tell you more except to repeat
that it's excellent -- some say better than his. Her books, which also
must be read in order, are 1) Ritual Bath, 2) Sacred and Profane, 3) Milk
and Honey, 4) Day of Atonement, 5) False Profit, 6) Grevious Sin. She has
another one out since Grevious Sin, doesn't she? someone help me out
here. Faye also took time out to do one book not in her series, The
Quality of Mercy, which I've not read.

Both of them are well-worth getting hooked on. Two such successful
authors, and with four kids, too. Kinda makes you wonder about their
family life, doesn't it?...

*Sanctuary* is the title of the latest Faye Kellerman novel, and IMHO
it's well worth the cost of a hardcover book. I'll only say that Rina
finally becomes an *active* participant and it's great! P.S. Won't spoil
it for anyone, but keep an eye out for the connection to hubby Jonathan's
books; it's pretty obvious and real clever. There's also a Jonathan to
Faye connection in his new book, *Self Defense,* but it's much more
subtle.

And their sanity! How much you want to bet that they have a couple
of dogs and a few cats too?

Hi Dora - Milo is the best friend of the shrink-detective in
Jonathan Kellerman's books.

Perhaps not with an exceptionally strong actor in the
role of Alex Delaware -- a la Harrison Ford's Rusty Sabich
(sp? ) to Dennehy's character in "Presumed Innocent."
Dennehy is an outstanding character actor, but you're
absolutely right, his screen personae is so forceful it
could easily overshadow Alex.

Since reading all these terrific postings, I must admit,
the people I imagined as Milo while reading *Self Defense*
were Bill Murray, Tommy Lee Jones, Dan Ackroyd and
or Jim Bellushi . Although I had no problem seeing
George Wendt, John Goodman or Paul Sorvino in the
role.

Kudos to all you creative people for your suggestions!
