I won't spoil anything but the sup[rise finale twist was stunning to me.
This show with its strange take on serial killers is really well written and
acted. I have truly enjoyed watching this series.
Anyone else here enjoy Dexter? And what did you think of the ending? Take
care

I love Dexter both the books and the program. However, I'm still waiting on
season 3 on DVD (getting it for Xmas I believe). We don't get Showtime. I
did hear that the end of season four was a unexpected. I don't want ot know
yet.

Another very good season -- Lithgow made a formidable villain, and Dexter's
relationship to him took an unusual arc.
The ending was like a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. Totally unexpected
and devastating.
It does however make for all manner of interesting possibilities for Season
5. Dexter could be in a very bad spot, since he has no alibi for the time of
the terminal events, Trinity's family know him by sight, his car was
ticketed near Trinity's abandoned van, plus Quinn has it in for him the same
way what's his name did in Seasons 1 and 2.

I watched season 3 twice, once as week;ly episodes and again on Comcast On
Demand in a marathon. Jimmy Smits is a featured guest star on Season 3 and I
know you will enjoy it. Take care
Yes, in a post finale shot Michael Hall and John Lithgow chat about the
possibilities for the writers of next season. I think the difficultiese you
mention are minor. You will have to suspend disbelief.as there are tons of
plot holes in the show. Tey part where he hides in the coffin then emerges
conveniently was just crazy improbable.
John Lithgow was a great bad guy. He often plays these types. There was a
movie some 10 or 15 years ago where he played multiple roles as a family of
child psychologists while he abducted children. That was a great movie.
Interestingly I think he gets work as voiceovers in commercials and it was
odd to hear him selling products while playing a serial killer on another
show.
I was very interested in the storyline involving family issues, booth
Dexters and Trinity's. All of the family ramifications were great. The
writers broguth in every thing from Rita and Dexter in family counselling to
Trinitty's estranged daughter, to Deborah's search for her dad's
confidential informants. aTake care
We love, love, loved this season. By far the best one yet, imho. John
Lithgow so deserves to win an Emmy for this role. He gave a simply
outstanding performance every episode. So low key, yet the stuff of
nightmares..brrr. (I have to make myself forget other characters he's
portrayed -- e.g., he was such fun in 'Third Rock' ;-)
I thought it was a great ending epi, although I'm still a bit in :::
shock.:::: ;-) I think what the writers did most successfully in the
finale (without giving spoilers) was to bring it all full circle. Your
comment about plot holes I actually don't agree with.because I can't think
of any instances where they've left plot or subplot threads unresolved this
season. In past seasons maybe, but not this time. The show also handles
coincidences well.. and they don't overuse that device. Anyhow, that's just
a few of the things that so impressed me about the terrific writing (and
acting!) in this 4th year series... They've really managed to keep it
fresh. I'm very anxious to see what will happen next ....
Cheers,
Annie
We have different ideas about plot holes. I agree that every thread was
wrapped up we;;/ I was referring to the problems mentioned about how
Trinity's fanmily knows him and now he must stay out of sight. How Dexter's
altercation with teh sherrifs is right next to Trinity's van, I thought it
was improbablye that Dexter could know just where (in a deserted area) the
Mustang would conk out and how he transported the guy to his kill zone.
I agree this was one of the best if not THE bet season. Can't waiot til next
time. I guess I shall have to be content with Nurse Jackie for the next
several weeks.Take care

I judst got back from the opthalmologist and cannot see well so I won't look
it up but I think the movie I mentioned earlier was called Raising Cain/ It
stars Lothgow in multiple roles as a child psychikigist, some of the m in
the imagination of the other actors. It's a pretty good movie and Lithgow is
great in i as a villain. Take care

Yes, they will have to deal with Trinity's family knowing who Dex is next
season... or not.
His altercation by Trinity's van...Don't recall that as clearly, I'll have
to rewatch those scenes..
but when the Mustang conked out, Dexter was hiding IN Trinity's car.. I
think he was hiding in the trunk. Replayed the scene but it wasn't clear if
he emerged from the trunk but he came from behind the car and Dex's car
wasn't there.. But in any event, Dex did not drive his own vehicle there.
Dex had gone to the body shop earlier because he had Trinity's wallet and
Dex had the receipt from the body shop for the Mustang, remember?
Annie
Still SPOILERS here:
Dexter had just drugged Trinity in his van when the guy he hit and run came
by with the Sherrifs and Dexter took a swing at the cop, got arrested
leaving Trinity in his van. By the time Dex gets back the van is still there
but Trinity is gone.

I agree that Dexter was hiding in the trunk having previously fixed the
Mustang so it would crater. But how does he know it will breakdown on a
lonely road instead of a busy freeway? When he emerges from the ttrunk if
he's on a busy highway he's out of luck. There is also the problem of
getting the Musatang back in running order. Usually if a car seizes up due
to an oil leak you aren't going to be driving it anywayre. Dexter 's in the
trunk and it real life would have no transportation. Also Dexter is in good
shape, I admit but Trinity is much taller and heavier and would be a
handfull after being drugged. He;s got to get him to the building site where
he held the llttle boy driving the Mustang, He's got to ditch the car afer
dealing with Trinity get to his own vehicle, get home. Remember he also had
to go the his marina, get his boat out to the Gulf Stream which is miles
offshore, and come home. That's a lot of moving and shaking for the time
allowed.
This is what I mean by plot holes. Also Dexter seems to have plenty of money
which his wife never questions. I doubt blood techs make all that much and
Rita is not working so he's supporting a family of 5 on one income, nice
house (even in Floridas sluimp), nice vehicles, boat docking fees rental for
his apartment earlier in the season, now the shipping container. etc. And
free time to leave work in the middle of the day, his supervisors never
question his comings and goings. Most jobs you have to be there. Dexter is
a busy boy juggling a lot of stuff. Take the Thanksgiving fiasco. He goes to
TWO dinners and his wife believes all his excuses for not being around. Now
these are quibbles, part of fiction so I don't complain too much. It is a
story afterall and not like real life. Take care

Besides the season of examining family values, I am enjoying the development
of the characters in the police station as they are multidimentional. Quinn
is interesting, as is the relationship between Angel and Batista.
Vicky
He is a psychopath after all and won't be able to experience normal human
emotiohns or to care deeply about others. The books emphasize this
characteristic while the writeres of the show has tried to show him growing
in emotive capability. I liked the way he seemed so curious about Trinity's
family and how it related to his own experiences with his own family.
During the early seasons he merely used here as decoy but changed to caring
about here though whether he loves her is problematic. He seems distant to
his family unless he is in social situations where he needs cover. Remember
Rita has not been honest with him. One small thing was a previous marriage
that she concealed from him. He decided to let her keep the secret but I
always wondered about that when Rita was dragging him to counselling . To me
Dexter is not meant to be all that sympathetic a character. After all he is
a cold blodded murderer.Take care
