Just saw PG a few hours ago. I saw it in my hometown of Annapolis, where
parts of the film take place. This being a movie and all, they naturally
got local things a bit screwed up. Here's a few minor nits...

- Just before the car chase, when Ryan's wife pronounces "Rowe Blvd" as "row"
it got a good laugh. Proper pronunciation is "rau".

- A few moments later she's near Rte 50 in Annapolis, and the next moment
she appears to be in some large city on a major elevated highway.
Don't know where that part of the chase (the car crash) was filmed,
but it sure as hell isn't anywhere near Annapolis. At least they had
Maryland plates on the cars.

What was that body of water near the house? The Pacific Ocean?

Why couldn't it be part of the Chesapeake Bay?? The Ryans could live
somewhere along the waterfront overlooking the Bay... After all, Annapolis
is right on the Bay.

This is correct, in fact I believe it is based on Clancy's own home.

It was beautiful, wasn't it?

Wow, just saw this on E! Features Patriot Games today.

It's supposed to be right on Chesapeake Bay, but is, in fact, the Pacific. I
didn't catch the exact location, but the director seemed to be saying that the
house was built right on top of an old Marine World whale pool. He gave a
nice long story about how if the whale came back today, he'd see a house on top
of his old pool. He also said the whole thing was funny, because he'd heard
from people who actually live on Chesapeake Bay swear they know the house;
that it's right in their neighborhood nearby.

Actually, that WAS the Pacific Ocean. I've read that the site used to
represent the Ryan home overlooked the Pacific. They had to
temoporarily remove a dozen or so palm trees to make it look less
Californian.

It always kills me when some cheap Hollywood producer sets up an
outside shot that's supposed to be DC or NYC or Boston, or points
in between...

Half the time there are palm trees visible swaying in the background.

Or the sun is setting over the ocean....

A real favorite was the motorcade at the beginning of Goldie Hawn's
old movie "Protocol" which winds around Washington tourist sites in
the most bizarre order... they must have doubled back a half-dozen
times :->

Well sure, we're *supposed* to believe it's Chesapeake Bay somewhere in
Maryland, probably near Annapolis, and it is pretty convincing (I certainly
believed it the first time I saw it). The problem is that:

- if that were the bay you'd probably be able to see the far shore.
Especially from that high up.

- that big rock cliff just doesn't look like something you'd find
around here.

Of course I'm no expert in Maryland geography, though.
