Where did the following bar scene originate from?

Guy walks into a bar and asks for milk. Suddenly,
every one in the bar freezes, the pianist hits a
couple of wrong notes, every one was shocked by his
request for milk.

Then some one challenges the guy and asks what sort
of milk he wants and then a fight breaks out shortly.

I have seen this scene replayed many times (for example
in Victor/Victoria and an episode of McGuyver etc)
but I would like to know where this originated from.

PS: Would appreciate if you post a reply to the net
to please email me a copy of your reply (my
email is l...@spectra.com) as I don't get the
opportunity to read news every day.

Thanks.

I believe it's "Destry Rides Again" with Jimmy Stewart and Marlene Dietrich. I
don't remember the exact details of the scene, but the bar patrons are
shocked that he orders milk. The movie stars a very young Jimmy Stewart.

the first place I remember seeing the "order milk in a bar"
scene was in the B/W movie western "Destry" with Jimmy Stewart and
Marlene Dietrich.

I just tuned in on this thread. I remember a "Road" movie (I think
it was *The Road to Utopia* in which Bob Hope orders "Milk . . . In a
dirty glass!" I also recall hearing about a scene in which a clergyman
orders milk, which is delivered to him heavily spiked; he raises his eyes
to heaven and says "God, what a cow!"

This was in some Bob Hope movie (I think one of the "Road" pictures)
a long time ago. I saw this scene on some show within the last few weeks..
(Comedy Hall of Fame?).. The basic part above happens, then Bob says...
