Remember the film "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas"?

It starred Burt Reynolds and Dollie Parton and a host of other
familiar names....including Charles Durning who was nominated
for an award for his portrayal of the Governor. In that role he
sang a very funny little song, something about politicians
side-stepping issues, during which he danced around the
capitol building. I'd *LOVE* to have the lyrics to that song!

Anybody out there able to assist? - Dave

I love it too - I only saw the movie once, long ago, but it still
stays with me. (I assumed the song was from the original stage
musical, but I don't know.)

It's something about:

"Ooooooh! I love to dance a little side-step
Now you see me - now you don't
I'm here and gone. And ....

Oooooooh! I love to prance a little slide-step
Cut a little rug
And lead the people on!"

Many more verses.

That little chubby guy in a shiny white suit, jumping around and
squealing - you haven't seen anyone having that much fun on stage
since Stubby Kaye. Weird, but hilarious.

Best line:

Burt Reynolds (Sherriff) to Dolly Parton (Whorehouse Keeper):

Reynolds: "You could still become a ballerina - why don't you
get up now and start hopping up and down?"

Parton: "I'd black both my eyes."

Hey, I love that movie. A friend and I were just talking about it
the other day! There is a soundtrack from the Movie version, as well as
the theatre. You might want to do a little side-step on down to the music
store and pick it up, the whole thing is a stitch. But there is a soft
spot in my heart for the charles durning character.
