: Brad Pitt and Robert Redford. Hmmmm...
Definitely! I noticed that right away with Brad Pitt. Do you think that's
why Redford cast him in _A River Runs Through It_, because he really wanted to
play the part himself?

I always mix up Matt Dillon and the kid who was the boyfriend
in Sixteen Candles. although, come to think of it, most of
the Brat Pack was probably interchangeable, at least talent
wise.

What exactly is the last line of this movie?
How about:
BOGART: "Louis - this looks like the beginning of a beautiful
friendship."

Yea, they do, but Barry has a bigger nose and is a lot skinnier than Joe.

I have seen that movie 10 times.
Ever had "Add it up" sung to you?Even know who did that song in the first
place? If that scene didn't bring back high school memories, you can't relate.
Ever played drinking games round a coffee table?
Ever been in debt up to your eyeballs and paid it off using a credit card?
Ever had slacker friends and non-slacker friends live in the same house?
Ever been the fuel in the engine that powers your best friend out of the
closet? Ever made video's of your friends that you cherish? Know all the words
to the SCHOOL HOUSE ROCK series? Ever try and be friends with someone you are
completely in love with?
When you do, when you can relate...watch it again.

Nope, sorry. Done that, been there, know all about Schoolhouse Rock (I'm
only a bill, yes I'm only a bill). Same generation, vastly different
people. There you are. The movie bored the living hell out of me,
frankly. Two whiners dumping their problems on everyone else and doing
nothing to help themselves.
To be completely honest, after seeing the thing I was offended the media
thinks we're like those flimsy characters. They've been watching too
much of that Mtv "Real World" propaganda.
...IMHO.

One .sig to rule them all, One .sig to find them
One .sig to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them...
How about Tom Gugliotta and Pete Sampras?
Thanks for bringing that up. I found the movie's attitude to be a little
offensive as well. It was just SOOOO slick and SOOOO full of itself (from
the performances right down to the narcissistic self-awareness of the
film itself) that it couldn't make contact with anything resembling real
feeling. Putting the Femmes on the soundtrack and resurrecting
Schoolhouse Rock doesn't get you anywhere by itself. And there are plenty
of other movies out there about unrequited love, friendship, changed
relationships, and youthful directionlessness. I agree that our
generation needs spokespeople, but not these.

Don't ask me to relate details (because I saw it long ago), but I remember
the movie "Singles" as being a more realistic look at modern
20-somethings (and more entertaining too).

"to live for today and love for tomorrow is the wisdom of a fool..."

Would you happen to know who sings the song in the trailer? I
cannot locate the soundtrack and I would like to know whether it is a
song by the Cranberries. If you do know, could you also indicate the
name of the song.
Thanks,
Serhan.
I don't remember which song was in the trailer....but the movie in general
has a great soundtrack....The song "Anything You Want" is a remake done by
Bonnie Raitt..
The reson Reality Bites was so bad is that it took every Generation X
cliche and tried to cram it into one movie.
Shall we list them...ok...here are the ones I remember...
Yuppie scum tv producer
Go no where rock band
Group of friends that say witty things
Brillant philosipher outcast
Unable to hold down jobs
Love interest between friends
All of these are stereo typed cliche...the whole movie was an amalgum
of stereo typed cliche!
And the thing that really gets me about the movie, which had no plot
except to show us cliche, was that the major plot device is that Winona
is a brilliant video maker that cannot get her chance. But everything
we see her film is stupid cliched Generation X babble. Are we supposed to
believe that everyone who saw these clips would immediately say that she
has tons of talent?
All in all, pathetic. And yes, I am 25...been there, done that.

Yeah, it is the Cranberries, but which song has been bugging me too,
can't remember it long enough to check.

Well,
After reading these obviously ridiculous comments on
REALITY BITES I have to say this:
- The movie's far more realistic and describes our
generation much better than SINGLES for example
or BODIES, REST AND MOTION ...
- The actors were all normally played and the movie
was not about some two whining people laying their
problem on everyone els ...
- The script, the dialogues, relate far more to real
life than Q. Tarantino's scripts (Helen Childress
did a marvellous job, but I must say that I really
loved Q.T.-script ... brilliantly written and much
fun)
- Of course we have different opinions, but I find it
hard to believe that our generation (X- or whatever)
can really be offended if the media compares us to
the characters in the movie. Believe it:
- a lot of our generation's parents are divorced
- there are groups of friends like in R.B. in
the world today
- people are trying hard to make it on their own
(especially after graduation)
- our generation's search for identity has been
going on for several years and it has made us
very confused (which explains the X-...)
- Ethan Hawke's character (and Winona's, Ben's...)
can be so easily found in the society today
- ....
Yes there are lot of things in REALITY BITES which made me
think: "At last, here is a great "interpretation"(?) for my
generation. This is so like real life!"
Plus: (last, but certainly not least...) the songs in the
picture are brilliant -- that is, Reality Bites has probably
the best soundtrack (collection of brilliant songs) that I
can think of (along with Forrest box of chocolates Gump!!)
I'd better quit now, the thin ice I'm standing on is
cracking ...
Regards from Iceland,
Doddi (a true R.B. fan!!!)
While we're on the subject of Gen-x ish films, I thought I'd mention
another couple: Before Sunrise & Spanking the Monkey. I thought BS was
one of the better 20something representations I've seen. The script was
intelligent, the story unconventional, and the movie managed to avoid (or
mock) lots of the cliches that Reality Bites subscribed to.
(I still, in a stupid hollywood kind of way, liked Reality Bites,
but it's a rental at best)
I was depressed by Spanking the Monkey. No happy ending, and the lead
character's an asshole, regardless of his personal problems. But I've
read some criticism that argued it was this whole generational metaphor
about boomers who won't let go of their youth --> I should probably see it
again.
Singles was way cool, by the way. Perhaps a little bit yuppie (main
characters are successful professionals, remember) but still likeable.

How about Murray Hamilton (the mayor in Jaws II) and Hal Holbrook. Also the
actress who played Lois Lane's cousin in Supergirl looked not surprisingly
a lot like Margot Kidder (Lois Lane from the Superman films). Also Bruce

By the way, I personally feel the movie is the best film I have seen in a
