This note is particularily addressed to *shaggy*-

By no means are you alone in your convictions...Personally, I can't enjoy a
film that Costner appears in primarily due to his overbearing ego...It
seems to be the underlying theme in the majority of his fims- with limited
exception to the early ones...

But, alas- when one is young and "gungho" one tends towards a little more
integrity, intelligence, enthusiasm and above all- modesty and willingness
to accept criticism and direction....

Just a personal and *humble* opinion...

I do not agree that Kevin Costner has a big ego. If that were so, why
would he take a supporting role for a small salary in "The War", which he
did simply because he liked the script ? All actors have to have some
"ego" but Kevin's is small compared to most Hollywood stars.

and to quote from Varety in an article on Waterworld(12/5/94)...
"The locals have an answer in the good deeds of Costner, whose civicmindedness and generousity
have impressed islanders. Costner has been a behind-the-scenes supporter of local events, choosing
to keep a low profiles so as to not steal the sptlight from participants."
"Costner has made countless public appearances, posed for amateur photographs and graciously
signed authographs fro residents and tourists. He donated funds enough to send a group of local
students to an intercultural program in Honolulu"

Sounds like a nice guy not a big ego.

Mr. Costner apparently made himself fairly popular with the residents
of Hawaii while shooting "Waterworld" there. He was generous with
his time for charity events, yet willing to avoid overshadowing those
doing the real work. Also, he was considerate about autographs, shaking
hands, getting his picture taken, etc. I've not heard much to suggest
Mr. Costner has an unusually large ego, by Hollywood standards, at least.

Further on this thought...it's just as Quentin Tarantino mentioned in
the London Sunday Telegraph back in August of this year..."...What's
so silly is that before Costner became one of the hugest stars in the
world, he was a critical darling. Everyone loved him. And now, guess
what's happened? As soon as he gets big, they all turn on him."

Hollywood (and the media) continues to "eat its young"...
