how could it have been *worse* than the ending they used?
just saw it last night...what a mess.

Well this is more in tune with the book that the movie was made from excpet
for the volcano thing. I saw Sliver b/c I had read the book and was interested
to see how it would be adapted. I won't ruin for anyone but we'll just say
imagine my surprise....

SLIVER spoilers ahead:
OK. The original original ending, as written by Ira Levin in his
novel _Sliver_ had the William Baldwin character as the killer,
protecting his voyeuristic activities, and the Tom Berenger character
as the "alternate suspect" who turns out to be a good guy in the
end. Baldwin dumps Stone off her balcony, she holds on for dear
life, and the dog that Berenger got her jumps on Bladwin and he
falls out the window past her. Berenger pulls STone to safety.
Not particularly credible, but neither was the rest of the book,
so hey. I didn't mind it.
I understand that the movie _Sliver_ had an ending along similar
lines that took place in the rim of a volcano in Hawaii. (They
never left NYC in the book ....)
It was so badly done that audiences were left -- reactionless. I
mean, zero effect.
Back to the drawing board. Eszterhas wrote four new endings. They
filmed two of them, including incidental scenes to insert into the
movie earlier to make the ending work.
Word is that the new ending was no better than the original, so
the studio decided, the hell with it, let's hope people wanna
see Sharon's butt.
