I know there is a John Wayne movie, where he plays someone
who captures wildlife for zoos. I think it also stars Red Buttons.
Can anyone name it please ?
TIA
Clive
No, no, no. The movie was called "Hatari". I think "Daktari" was a TV
show with a similar theme.

Yes, the movie was defintely "Hatari". My parents had the soundtrack when I
was little (with the famous "Baby Elephant Walk") and I still remember the
picture on the front of John Wayne (or somebody) sitting on the front of
the jeep while a rhino is charging it. Really made an impression on a little
kid, can't you tell? :^)

Actually, the title was "Hatari," and sticks in my mind for the Henry Mancini score.
"Daktari" sounds familiar, but I think that it was a TV show set in Africa, which may have
been patterned after "Hatari." Never having seen the show, I can't say. I don't remember
much from Hatari besides the title music, the "Baby Elephant Walk" music, and the
poster of the rhino attacking the truck. Great poster!
It was ``Hatari". A very funny scene in this with John Wayne and the
leading lady (can't remember her name) when she is
wearing hair curlers and has beauty cream all over
her face and he kisses her!

Nope! It was called "Hatari" - 1962 - Director Howard Hawks.
Daktari was a tv series modeled on this movie I think.

Actually, the movie was named 'Hatari!", not 'Daktari'. It was released
in 1962. I'm not sure, but there may have been a TV series called
'Daktari" inspired by the movie. Curiously enough, John Wayne and Red
Buttons also appeared together in another movie released that same year.
Does anybody remember what it was?

Elsa Martinelli, I believe. And of course we
all know that hatari means danger in Swahili.
I always liked this movie. A bit corny, but
good, relatively nonviolent action, and absolutely
great scenery.

Definately NOT modeled on this movie. Intended more
likely to capitalize on an interest in Africa and
problems of problems with big game preservation.
Daktari dealt with a kindly bush doctor, as opposed
to a bunch of daredevil profiteers.
