this may have already been answered in the past, and if so, i apologize.

Prince (listed in the credits under his symbol " O-+-> ", which he no
longer uses), was listed in the credits of FARGO as "Victim In Field."
neither my girlfriend nor i can recall seeing him.

the obvious character would be the man shot in the back as he runs from
his overturned car. but unless they switched actors on us, that's
definitely NOT Prince who goes by in the car and witnesses Buscemi's
character pulling the patrolman off the road.

so has anyone figured this out? who exactly does Prince play? or was he
perhaps cut out of the movie and still put in the credits? (this happened
to my father once, who appeared in the credits of an 80s movie called
D.A.R.Y.L. yet never appeared on screen.)

Well, it _has_ been answered before, but not necessarily in this
newsgroup, so: the symbol credit is a joke. The guy in the field is the
film's storyboard artist, who asked to be credited in the cast list under
a different name, so the Coens turned the Prince symbol on its side and
used that. It is _not_ The Artist Formerly Known As.

Notice that the symbol is turned sideways, unlike TAFKAP, and I believe on
closer inspection there are subtle differences in the shape. Actually, it's
one of the Coen brothers' buddies/crewmembers in that cameo role, with a sense
of humor and consideration of the Minneapolis area settings of FARGO.
