Does anyone have a list of Christmas movies?
They don't necessarily have to have the word Christmas
in the title. (Like "Lemon Drop Kid" with Bob Hope.)
They can be old or new, on screen, or tv movies.
Thanks for your help!

Holiday Inn The Christmas Tree
White Christmas A Christmas Without Snow
Lemon Drop Kid Christmas Eve (1947)
A Christmas Carol (1938)
It's A Wonderful Life
Christmas in Connecticut

More????

Well, "Scrooge" with Albert Finney is a personal favorite, although
sentimental to a near-fault.

I have been thinking about this myself lately, but I was thinking more
along the lines of "Die Hard" and "Edward Scissorhands." How about
more for the "Alternative Xmas" List as well?

Where's Miracle on 34th Street?
Alternative Christmas movies--Die Hard, for sure; Lethal Weapon
I, Running Scared (I don't think it's set at Christmas, but I
watch it every year), Scrooged, The Dead Zone...

Any others?

Total agreement on "A Christmas Story" - great movie. Personal preference
here: when it comes to "A Christmas Carol", for me, it's Alastair (sp?) Sim
or nothing. Also, don't forget Laurel and Hardy's "March of the Wooden
Soldiers".

A Christmas Story by Bob Clark (who did Porky's) and starring
Darren McGavin (The Nightstalker). The story is told from the
perspective of a young boy who wants a BB gun for christmas.
Very funny, well acted.

Die Hard is another excellent Christmas movie. Great action flic,
and Alan Rickman as the villain is truly superb. Die Hard II is more
a rip-off of the first than a sequel and while it has some
interesting shots, it is not in the same league as the original.

Cool. My favorite Christmas movie has to be "A Christmas Story."
You know, the one about the kid named Ralph that wants a Red Ryder BB Gun.
Totally priceless, IMHO. My friends and I love to watch this every year...

There is more, of course, but these are some of my favorite "weird" Xmas

Santa Claus Vs. The Aliens is an unbelievable rip off of "SC Conquers the
Martians". "Santa Claus" is a K. Gordon Murray import from Mexico. In this
amazing flick, SC has to fight the Red Devil, a guy in red tights with
really bad "Spock" ears! "Over The Rooftops" is a "killer Santa" film and
may even be the first of the genre. <Anyone know anything about a film called

Yes, the scene with the family eating Christmas dinner at the Chinese
restaurant while the waiters sing "Deck the Halls" with atrocious
oriental accents ("Fa ra ra ra ra") is classic. Read the book by
Jean Shephard too. I believe it's titled, "In God We Trust (All Others
Pay Cash). This is my favorite Christmas movie without a doubt.

Although not a "Christmas" movie, most of the action does take place
around the Christmas season; one of my favorites is "Rent-a-Cop"..This
is the Chicago movie with Burt Reynolds and Lisa Minnelli.. It's one
of Reynold's better cops and robber movies.

Several others come to mind, depending in part on your criteria for
a Christmas movie. For example, Gremlins and Trading Places take
place at Christmas, with many scenes of holiday trim and good
cheer, but most probably wouldn't consider them holiday fare.
Some more traditional ones include:

An American Christmas Carol (1979 TV movie w/Henry Winkler)
Miracle on 34th Street
The Bishop's Wife (1947, w/Cary Grant as a Christmas angel)
Scrooge (1970, rather lame musical version w/ Albert Finney, though
it does include a bizarre scene of Scrooge in Hell!)
Scrooge (1935, early British version)
A Christmas Carol (1951, excellent British version w/ Alistair Sim)
Bells of St. Mary's (always shown at Christmas, though only
tangentially related to the season, much like its prequel,
Going My Way)
Santa Claus (1985, w/Dudley Moore)
One Magic Christmas (1985, w/Mary Steenburgen and Harry Dean Stanton)
Prancer (1989)
Holiday Affair (1949, Robert Mitchum & Janet Leigh)
Scrooged (Bill Murray)
The Holly and the Ivy (British, 1953)

I'm sure there are more; I'm something of a Christmas movie buff
and these are just off the top of my head. Most of the above
are on tape (except Holly and the Ivy) and there are plenty of
television specials from the past (usually aimed at kids) which
get released to the bargain video bins every December.

Hey! This is by far my favorite version of "A Christmas Carol"!
Alec Guinness makes a great Marley, and although many have complained
about the songs, I find them quite enjoyable!
And Yes!!! That is pretty bizzare in Hell!
"Father Christmas" is probably my favorite song from the movie,
and I still throw my tape of this film in the old VCR 2 or 3 times in
Xmas season, and probably once or twice during the normal year.

There are several television "specials" that are available on tape
that are wonderful Xmas season shows:

Amahl and the Night Visitor

Gian Carlo Minotti's charming operetta that was transformed to
the small screen in the early 60's by the New York City Opera
company and NBC.

Mister Magoo's Christmas Carol

I love this one, one of my all-time favorites. "And on the
tree a star, of rasselberry dwessing." Good songs.

A Charlie Brown Chrismas

Not the best Charlie Brown TV special (I still prefer the
Great Pumpkin story personally) but still worth a peek (and
the kids always love it).

Saturday Night Live - The Gumby Christmas

Eddie Murphy is, well, Eddie Murphy as Gumby ("dammit!") and
I forget who played Donnie and Marie Osmond groping each other
but I still crack up during that scene.

Yikes! I rented that a few weeks ago. It was a great title, and a good
concept, but a weak execution. Production quality and acting was on
the level of all those film school final projects which have made
their way to video (The Dorm that Dripped Blood etc.). It goes on and
on like a shaggy dog tale, and promising subplots (like the girl who
seems to be tripping and says "something bad will happen tonight") are
not developed. Eventually, your reward for sitting through over an
hour of this tripe is a relatively weak 10 minutes of zombies
reminiscent of, but inferior to, Night of the Living Dead. Oh well.

I mena, what did you think the "magic white powder" they gave the
reindeer was?

Here's some titles that I posted to the HORROR network last
year .... These are certainly not your conventional Christmas films
like IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE, WHITE CHRISTMAS and CHRISTMAS IN
CONNECTICUT.

Here are some holiday horrors to get you in the spirit:

SILENT NIGHT, BLOODY NIGHT (1973) - Incredible film directed by
Theodore Gurschney (sp?) about asylum inmates who revolt against
corrupt doctors and overtake a small NE town. With an extremely
bloody double axe murder, great camerawork, and sepia-tinted
flashbacks of an inmate revolt that is too weird for description.

BLACK CHRISTMAS (aka STRANGER IN THE HOUSE, aka SILENT NIGHT, EVIL
NIGHT) (1973) - Made by the people who produced CHILDREN SHOULDN'T
PLAY WITH DEAD THINGS and DEATHDREAM, this is a scary, nearly
bloodless psycho-in-a-sorority tale that succeeds in being
different from the mundane stalk and slash films. Margot Kidder
is a nasty sorority sister who becomes the main interest of an
obscene phone caller. With a great suffocation-in-the-attic
murder and a surprise ending.

TO ALL A GOODNIGHT (1980) - Awful slice-n-dice turkey directed by
the heavy from LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT. Film features a killer
Santa with the usual horror *cliches*. It is interesting to note
that while this film was released to cable TV for all to see, at
the same time, the controversial film SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT
was removed from theaters because of public complaints that the
film featured a killer Santa. Those who complained loudest
hadn't even seen the movie, but complained about the content of the
movie poster! Meanwhile, their children were probably
watching TAAG on cable, which featured a Santa who not only murdered,
but raped and tortured his victims as well.

GHOST STORY (1981?), GREMLINS (1984) - Set during the Christmas season.

DON'T OPEN TILL CHRISTMAS, CHRISTMAS EVIL - never saw.

DEEP RED (aka THE HATCHET MURDERS) (1975) - Remarkable Dario Argento
shocker with graphic killings and a complicated (well, complicated for
Argento) plot. Opening scene is a visually striking holiday murder.
Unedited version clears up all plot shortcomings.

NEW YEAR'S EVIL (1980) - Unintentionally hilarious splatterfest with
Roz Kelly (Pinkie Tuscadaro from TV's "Happy Days") as a hard rock DJ
whose biggest fan is a multiple murderer who must kill someone
every hour at midnight in each time zone. It turns out to be her
son in drag. A doctor and a nurse don't have glasses, so they drink
champagne out of specimen cups, and Roz can't recognize her own son's
voice! With an asylum scene where the patients celebrate the New
Year in a most unusual way.

BLOODTHIRSTY BUTCHERS FROM HELL (198?) - Very obscure horror film
set during the holiday season. Played at drive-ins with THE ONE-
ARMED EXECUTIONER, HOUSE BY THE CEMETERY, and BLOODSUCKING FREAKS.
One scene is a direct rip-off of Argento's SUSPIRIA. A horned
demon levitates to the second floor of a building, bursts through
a window, stabs a woman repeatedly until her neck is hanging by a
thread, ties a rope around her foot and tosses her out the
window. The camera follows her descent until she dangles in mid-
air a few inches from the ground. And all of this happened in
about three minutes. A bit too misogynistic for *moi*, but it's
a scene I'm not likely to forget.

The rest of the film was pretty standard slasher stuff with a few
gory killings committed by a satansists during the Christmas season.

This very weird film was produced by a group of college students
for a graduate project.

SCROOGE (1935) - British version ... Faithful adaptation with some
good creepy moments.

INVASION OF THE ANIMAL PEOPLE (1959/62) - Abominable snowman film
with AWESOME fx. Possibly the only horror film made in Lapland.

DAMIEN, OMEN II - set during Christmas season.

NIGHT CALLER - Excellent Asain psycho film set during Christams season.

SANTA CLAUS VS. THE DEVIL (1959) - Sick flick meant for kids and
imported by K. Gordon Murray from Mexico. The film was retitled SANTA
CLAUS. Parents assumed it was a holiday film for children, not
knowing that an evil Devil would appear to counteract Santa's good
influence and try to make children do evil things. Later all references
to the Devil were removed ... I have the uncut version. The edited
version must have had a 20 minute running time because the Devil is in
nearly every scene!

MARCH OF THE WOODEN SOLDIERS (1934) - Laurel and Hardy.

I definitely think IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE is the best one. The black and
white one of course... SCROOGED is also good - you get to laugh more
than cry... It isn't really a movie, but MR KRUEGER'S CHRISTMAS with
James Stewart is a little show the Mormons put together and it is a very
nice story. I also like MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET and THE BISHOP'S WIFE
with Cary Grant. I'm a sucker for tear-jerkers and Christmas has a long
list of films for just that purpose.

Mr. Fred Krueger, per chance? With Jimmy Stewart? Oh, the possibilities...

Living here in Utah, capitol of the LDS world, I have endless
opportunities to see "Mr. Krueger's Christmas" every holiday season.
Thus, I have long wanted to see "Freddy Krueger's Christmas"
somewhere. Anyone want to do a treatment?
