Thanks to all for contributions to the list... I'm still looking for more
movie titles with scenes involving quicksand and/or people getting stuck,
etc...
in deep mud (this new catagory is now allowed, since there really *aren't
that
many qs movies out there). So far, none have very realistic scenes ... many
are
pretty fakey... but the search goes on!

*-any films with an astrisk indicate that I haven't personally seen them and
am
looking for a copy! If you have one, please let me know!!! EMail to:
<ADVN...@aol.com>

If you've been in real-life deep mud/quicksand and/or have seen a movie I've
missed, please EMail me! Here's the updated list:

================================
BTW, as a disclaimer right up front:
The Princess Bride - No, the "lighting sands" bit doesn't count!!!
...and it was really fakey anyway! No Lawrence of Arabia
"sinking sand" either! or "Blood Beach", or similar dry sand
scenes! Just wet type quicksand or sticky-mud counts!
================================
Quicksand Movies:
*****************

*The Hound of the Baskervilles"(Hammer film's1959)- starring Chris Lee and
Peter
Cushing. A young woman dies in quicksand while fleeing from Baskerville

Hall early in the film and there is a later scene in which Cushing
almost
suffers the same fate.

Blazing Saddles - two black guys and a railroad car sink in a quicksand pit
humorous scene.

*Crusoe (1989) Aidan Quinn About one quarter into the movie, Aidan and native

are fighting when they fall into a pit of quicksand.(Blooper: If you
watch
closely you will see that quinns face is clean when he is up to his
shoulders, the camera the camera cuts back to quinn he is up to his neck

and his face is covered with mud)

Flash Gordon 1980 Sam Jones A really fast scene about one quarter into
the movie. While Flash is running from the forest people he "falls"
into a bog of quicksand.

Krull - band of adventurers sink when the ground turns into qs under
magician's
spell (sawdust/dirt/water)

The Mines of Kilomanjaro - (Allan Quartermain movie) Nazis foolishly blunder
into quicksand

Escape - Woman prisoner escaping from South American white slave
camp sinks in a puddle of water that's *supposed* to be
quicksand...

* Cruel Swamp -- 50s B movie with quicksand and escaped women
prisoners.

The Beastmaster - Guy falls in sawdust qs and "ferrets" his way out!

Bare Essentials - made for TV Movie with Gregory Harrison where the babe
wanders and sinks into quicksand...VERY nice shot! One of the most
colorful and beatuiful quicksand sinks out there! Now on video.

Southern Comfort - lots of guys in swamp... multiple qs and mud scenes.

Remo Williams: The Adventure Continues - guy sinks in cement that is like
quicksand.

*From Hell It Came - A South Sea islander is murdered and comes
back from the dead as a walking tree stump (I am not on
drugs or making this up)! In one scene he throws a woman into
quicksand and watches her sink.

Swiss Family Robinson (Disney version) - The characters rescue a
trapped zebra, the girl helps and gets kinda messy. (Only in the
uncut version... in the cut version, nothing but zebra is muddy)

Lure of the Swamp - Old fifties b/w. It has a woman (crook), who
chases a man through the swamp at the end of the movie,
shooting him several times, before she steps into a pool of
water, up to her ankles and then sinks to her death.

Fantasy Island - (TV Episode) One plot has a man whose Fantasy to
find out about his father lands him in a Island prison.. As he
escapes with a guy whom he believes killed his father, the guy
falls into very realistic, thick, grey quicksand and is rescued
by the the man and his wife just as Mr. Rorke shows up at the
last minute. Other plot has a girl trying to become country-western
singing star.

The World's Greatest Athelete - Tim Conway sinks into quicksand
(ha, ha)

Neighbors: Belushi falls into quicksand. (bad shot)

*Guns of Darkness. (1962) Niven and
his wife are driving across a stream in South America somewhere
and his car gets stuck. Then the ground around the car solidifies and
he and his wife are forced onto the top of the car. Then they have to
jump into the quicksand as the car sinks out of sight. A great scene.

*Death Curse of Tartu- Dallas produced film where four junior anthropologists
disturb indian's grave in the Everglades and are knocked off by the
forces of nature one by one. One girl crawls through some nice gray
shallow mud moments before she's mauled by the most bored-looking
alligator I've seen. At the end, the other girl is chased by the
reincarnated villain amd shaken off a log into what's supposed to be
quicksand; it looks like just water with what looks like sawdust and
grass clippings. But, she struggles well all the way over her head and
she' *real* cute. Hero arrives, he and villain throw some punches,
villain lands in "quicksand," (hoist by his own petard) and girl is
rescued.

*Valley of Mystery- 1967 film made for TV but released first in drive-ins.
An airliner crashes in South America. A woman writer , replete in blue
slinky
dress, heels, and costume jewelry wanders away from the crash site
straight
into some black mud. Very nice scene where she struggles all the way up
to
her neck. Peter Graves (yay!) arrives, hacks
down a vine, and yanks her free. ***I am REALLY looking for this
one!***

*Trader Horn- The color remake that stole footage from another color jungle
epic has everyone slogging through knee-deep mud. Much later in the
film, the
sole girl wanders about three feet from the path and sinks neck deep in
some
yellow quicksand. The guys just about have a fistfight to see which
gallant
gent will rescue her. ***I am REALLY looking for this one!***

When Dinosaurs Ruled The Earth- At the end, while the protagonists are
escaping a
geologial disaster, one of the unlucky cave girls sinks into some
quicksand
on the beach. (Worth watching for Victoria Vetri in that leather
bikini,
otherwise a very short ...2-3 second... scene.)

The Land That Time Forgot- At the very end Susan Penhaligon is being chased
by a caveman when the both plunge into some brown sawdust-on-water.
The flounder around until Doug (hic!) McClure arrives,
plunges in, gives the cro-mag a solid right, and pulls the girl and
himself free with some handy vines while the baddie sinks out of sight.

******************************************************************************
*
*(Aside: how is it in the Hollywood version of nature all quicksand exists in
*
* pools about four feet wide and ninety feet deep?)
*

TV Episodes:
************
English TV Series - Black Beauty- Episode: The Pit Pony
(RKO Video rentals used to have this one on their shelves.)
A teenager backups into quicksand after backing away from a pony, that
keeps
chasing him.You watch him sink from his ankles to his neck and he puts
up
a fairly good struggle.

Get Smart- At the end of the episode where KAOS has the giant magnet on the
island, the bad guy marches Max, Agent 99, and the chief to a point
where
they start sinking. "Syntheticsand!"exclaims 99, to which the baddie
replies,
"It's kvicker than kvicksand!" nice shots as they sink knee-deep, waist
deep,
chest deep, and then shoulder deep in some oatmeal-looking muck.

*Charlie's Angels- I never got to see it, but in the first season the girls
go
to South America where the baddies pursue one of them into a quaking
black
bog. The others arrives and one plunges in to rescue her.

Six Million Dollar Man- One of the first episodes. A girl needs her scientist
father rescued from evil types in the everglades. On the way in, Steve
rescues her from some quicksand. At the end, he's being chased by the
baddies, leads them to the same spot, leaps over, and waits for them to
spot
him so they rush forward to their doom.

*The Bionic Woman- After plunging in and pulling herself out, she pulls the
same trick on the prison gaurds pursuing her.

*The Fall Guy- Hunting for treasure in the Everglades,
Heather Locklear falls into some quicksand. *I'd love to see this!*

Brisco County Jr. and his partner Lord Bowler are captured
by pirates in the desert and forced to 'walk the plank'
into a quicksand pit. Up to their chins and then some,
they are rescued by Brisco's horse, Comet. Great scene.

PBS Wonderworks movie - title forgotten
Based on the book 'Freckles, Boy Of The Limberlost'
A boy working in a Pacific Northwest logging camp
encourages his budding romance with a pretty naturalist
by pulling her out of the quicksand into which she had
sunk up to her pretty ankles.

Mud Movies:
***********

***all mud wrestling feature flicks like
"Hellcat Women Mudwrestlers", etc, are hereby disclaimed,
but a future list would be nice...)***

The Beach Girls - After the gardener accidentally leave the water
run, he gets in a fight with the chauffer and a big mud
fight draws all of the uglier extras into the mud
pit...(Notice that all of the topless Babes in
earlier shots *aren't* in this scene... it looks like they
got extras from the street!)

Big Doll House and starring Pam Grief with a femme fight that ends in a mud
pit. Nice black rice patty mud!

Caveman - Features a tar-pit, and scene where Shelly Long, et al
slog around in a big "ca-ca" pit looking for a midget who
"sank". Best shot is at the end where Barbara Bach is
dropped into a big dinosaur droppings (mud) pit and squirms
around!

The Invisible Woman (TV version) - with Bob Denver. The final
scene has the invisible woman getting pushed into a huge,
sloppy mudhole. The body stocking is "hardly" visible under
the brown coating, but not bad...

King Kong (remake) - Dumb Blonde runs away from Kong and into a
mud pit. There's not very deep mud and really fakey Kong.

Lost Empire starring Angela Aames and a vicious Cher lookalike who start a

prison scuffle that ends in a rather shallow mudpit.

The Man with Two Brains - Steve Martins ex (Yes, Kathleen Turner,
again!) gets pushed into a big mudhole... total coverage and
a great quote: " ***"Into the mud, scum queen!"*** "
(BTW, This is the *only* female actress I know of who seems
to like getting dirty!!! Hooray!)

Mugsy's Girls - O.K., this one is about a bunch of sorority girls
who try to win a mud wrestling tournement...multiple scenes
with mud, shaving cream etc. wrestling...some pretty good!

Poltergeist - Final sequence, where the heroine falls into an
unfinished swimming pool during a rain storm... lots of
excellent shots of her squirming up the muddy sides :)

The Ranch - Features several women who go to a Canadian
ranch turned "health spa" and wallow in a big, sticky mud
hole...and one actress 'falls' in... fun movie and great mud!

Romancing the Stone - Kathleen Turner slides down a mud
slide in the Amazon followed by Mike Douglas.

Stripes - The famous (and excellent) mud-wrestling bar scene. TV version
has new and different footage than R rated version: tape both!

Take this Job and Shove It! - After a 4-wheeler race, the whole
gang ends up in a big free-for-all in a big, black, mudhole.
Robert Hays and Barbara Hershey start out wrestling and end
up makingout in this gooey scene (look for the old guy's
expression after tussling with a young woman!!!)

Undercover Blues - Kathleen Turner wrestles the Czech baddy women
in a big mudhole!!!

There's a rather spooky one in "Krull"...
