Maybe someone is yanking my chain here, but if Raph Macchio were 37
today, he would have to have been 26 when THE OUTSIDERS was made. Pardon
me for butting in with no documentation, but no way!

If this was a troll post, consider me trolled, but according to the
Movie Database, Macchio was born on November 2/62, which would make
him considerably younger than 40. That would also place him in his
early twenties for "The Karate Kid", which was well ahead of his
character, which sounds right.

Ralph Macchio turned 40 this year. Though this may at first seem doubtful,

bear in mind that he just **looks** young. He was 17 when he played Spike
in Happy Days in 1971. Even in that character he was meant to be a good
five years younger than his age. Hard to believe, but true!

I'm sorry, but my mind says I just can't believe this. Not because
of the unbelieveability of your age quote (tho' that's a close second)
but because of your date on when the "Spike" Happy Days were on the
air. If I'm not mistaken, Happy Days didn't hit the airwaves AT ALL
until around '75 or '76 (I remember because I had a REALLY COOL Fonzy
coloring book in 2nd grade. The show was still "hip" with the small
crowd at the time because it was so new. Arnold still ran Arnold's,
The Fonz hadn't fought a Bull or jumped a Shark and all was right
with the world. :-)) I don't think Spike showed up until at least
the second season (in the first season Fonzy played much more the
James Dean/young Marlon Brando type, the family asoect was down
played or non-existent) which would put Macchio at least 5 years
younger than your quote - and it *still* sounds old, but who am I
to judge.

I honestly didn't know it was he who played Spike, though. Never
know what you'll learn on the net.

Ralph Macchio or however you spell his name, was 24 when he did the first
Karate Kid movie I do believe, you can figure the math out from there.

Wrong. I don't know how old Macchio is, but Happy Days was certainly
not on in 1971. It was based on the movie "American Grafitti" which
itself didn't come out until 1973, I think.

The movie database at Cardiff says he was born in 1962. Can this be
correct?

I would say that if the movie came out in 1986 that YES it would be correct.
I read in a magazine that he was 24 when the first movie came out.
the Movie database should tell you everything aboiut him that you could
want to know. =>

Hi, I manage the BIOGRAPHY section of the Internet Movie Database.

Karate Kid was made in 1984 - if he was 24 at the time is Birth Date would
be 1960 rather than '62. I've checked all the sources I have and can find no
reference to his *actual* birthdate anywhere.

If anyone can clarify this could they please contact me and I'll update the
system.

Cheers,

Mark.
