Me and a friend want to begin attempting to form some kind of guide
Nellish. If anyone wants to help , or just wants to offer some
opinions/feedback/abuse , either email us or post under this thread.
Thanks.
David
Oh , and if you're reading this Jodie - your feedback would be
UNBELIEVEABLY appreciated! ;)
>Me and a friend want to begin attempting to form some kind of guide
^^^^^^ That's me :)
I personally believe that there are more people who really liked the
movie Nell than those who didn't by a factor of 20:1 or more.
I became infatuated with Jodie Foster after watching Nell and tried
picking up the unique language she uses in her role. I thought it might
be a good idea to have a thread about the Nellish language and to get
lots and lots of feedback and suggestions.
My sister, Christine, was also interested in Nellish so she started
making notes after reading the book and managed to interpret most of
the dialogue. I'll post parts of her results eventually.
As a start, some of the popular Nellish phrases are:
* "Lilten pogies, lilten dogies. Lilten sees, lilten awes. Lilten t'ee,
lilten way. Lilten alo'lay ..."
- 'lilten' is pronounced 'le-olten' or 'lil-ten'
- I'm totally stuck on the word "pogies". In the movie Nell says: "Ja'
missa pogies. Pau' lo' missa pogies". What does it mean? Is she
refering to Dr. Lovell's chest or crutch?
* "Chicka, chicka, chickabee. Thee'n me an' thee'n me. Ressa, ressa,
ressa me. Chicka, chicka, chickabee ..."
- Pronunciation goes like this: "Chicka, chicka, chicka-bay. Tay an may
an tay an may. Risa, risa, risa-may. Chicka, chicka, chicka-bay."
Anybody want to contribute a translation? David, anybody?
Oh, and if you're reading this Jodie - we really would love to hear your
comments too! :)

David,
You're not going to believe this, but my sister saw the film, and now
annoyingly speaks 'Nellish' all the time, just to get on my nerves. So
please, if you're putting together a FAQ, don't send it to her! ;-)
However, she may be able to supply many of the phrases to you, out of memory,
which I find, very frightening.

I apologize for my spelling. I know I can't spell.
I should imagine that 'lilten' means little, and I know that 't'ee' means
tree.

All I know here is that 'Chickabee' is some sort of term of endearment.
By the way, although 'Nell' certainly did have its flaws, I pretty much
enjoyed it as a whole, although in general I find I enjoy Jodie Foster's
movies.

a SERIOUS discussion here! So keep your stupid , smartarsed little
comments to yourself.
You stupid, f...ing sh..head!! As much as I'd like to write the full
words about you I prefer to maintain what little respect I have for
people (I use the term loosely) like you.
If you don't have anything to contribute to our discussion then don't
post! We can do without your pathetic remarks.
Who the hell is Kent?
I thought the original post re the "Nell language" was a good mailing and
I was learning a little bit more about this "Jodie lingo". Then along
comes this crazy "flame". Please explain Noel......

Samantha,
The "Tay n' may..." interpretation you gave was correct. There are some
however that are a little more difficult.
If we do end up writing an FAQ on Nell's language you will receive it.
Here are some more:
missa - little
erna - big
tata - frightened, afraid
t'ee - tree
chickabee - loved one
eva'dur - evildoer
feliss - darkness, happy place
alo'lay - everywhere
Je'y - Jerry
ga'inja - gardian angel
Pau'a - Paula
Wor'i'a law - word of the lord
shie - day, sun
doana kee - don't cry
sees - eyes
leess'a - listens to??
* "Eva'dur done go inna tye'a feliss, Nell done caw Mi'i, done go
alo'lay. Nell leess'a Mi'i, leess'a Mi'i, aw tye.
- Evildoers leave when the night comes, Nell calls to May and goes
everywhere. Nell listens to May all the time.
More to come ... from my sister's translations.
Noel.

Nice reply. I think you have really elevated the level of this thread.

*GASP* hang on a sec! if this is 'Nell's Language'.... why are YOU
