Do you mean fights involving two women going at each other or just
including a woman?

The last movie I saw was _Romeo Is Bleeding_ in which Lena Olin plays
a toothy Russian assassin who beats the crap out of Gary Oldman whenever
she gets a chance. She has a smile that could eat up a lot of men. But
in any case, she strangles Oldman several times and is otherwise menacing.

The best fight scene involving a woman is at the end of the 007 James Bond
adventure "From Russia with Love" where the female Russian assassin dresses
up as a maid and tries to kick James Bond with a poison switchblade that
pops out of her shoe. Bond pins her against the wall with the legs of a
chair and his girlfriend shoots her.

Another great fight scene, albeit comic, is in the film "Foul Play" where
Burgess Meredith has a karate fight with a mean woman kidnapper. He ends
up throwing her into a grand piano, and knocks the piano cover on top of
her by karate chopping the support stick. After the fight, Meredith
exclaims "She was one tough old momma!"

No one's mentioned the classic "Faster Pussycat, Kill Kill Kill" or
the one with Wendy O of the Plasmatics as a prisoner, maybe titled
"Women in Cages" or something like that? Or how about "I Spit On Your

Oh, yes. Lena Olin really makes the movie. It's rather simple but the
performances are pretty damned good and it's a very ... mean movie. If
you liked _Reservoir Dogs_ you'll probably appreciate this noir film.

However, if you really liked _Reservoir Dogs_ and picked up on some of its more
complex aspects rather than simply jumping on the bandwagon and pretending to
like it, you would in all likelihood -*not*- enjoy it. Virtually every review
of it compliments Lena Olin, calling her one of the most vicious femmes fatale
to hit the big screen in a while-why, you may ask? It's because she favors us
wth her irritating cackle while she does her mean little things...not scary,
not menacing or ominous, just extremely irritating.
One of the movie's problems is its miscasting-Swedish-born, Hispanic-looking
Olin as a "Russian" spy/hitwoman, Roy Scheider as a Mafia boss (what the-?),
and Juliette Lewis as anything.
Gary Oldman, an excellent actor, can't save the film, mostly due to a horrific
script and poor direction, and _Romeo_ as a whole is a painful experience.

One movie that comes to my mind is Lovely but Deadly. I recall in one scene the heroine
dispatches a group of cheerleaders in a locker room singlehandedly. In another she takes
on all the men's dates at a fancy dinner party. Ok, so maybe these don't qualify as "best"
but maybe funniest?

I believe Rothrock's first name is Cynthia. There's some movie I saw
clips of that she was in, and now I'm trying to figure out what it was. I
thought it may have been "Above the Law" or "Against the Law" or something
like that, but I think one of them turned out to be a Steven Segal movie...

Yea, but the Total Recall scene was way too short. Actually,
I remember two. The apartment scene and the elevator scene.
The elevator scene was definatly better.

Actually, Rachel Ticotin was in Total Recall, not Maria Conchita Alonso.
However, Alonso was in another Arnie flick, The Running Man.

Erm. I don't think she did. It was supposed to some style of Kung Fu (at least in
the colour episodes) but quite frankly it was just embarrassing because she
didn't know what she was doing. Honor Blackman's fight scenes were very well done
(she even knocked some guy unconscious while doing it making headline knews)
because she'd been taught by a member of the French Resistance. Diana Rigg merely
relied on good stuntmen.
I agree with everyone about Sharon Stone's fights in Total Recall though.

I still have a special place in my heart (heartburn?) for the 6-way catfight
by the Master's wives in "Manos, the Hands of Fate".

What was that movie where Shirley Maclain and Ann Bancroft had a knock-down
slapping contest? Wasn't it The Turning Point? Had me standing up cheering and
rooting for them! (well, sorry, but you can take just so much ballet and bad
acting by what's-his-name).

Best fight scene between women has to include the one in the movie "Barfly"
between Faye Dunaway and another actress whose name escapes me fighting
over the drunken poet/fighter/misanthrope character played by Mickey
Rourke. It went on for several minutes, was very well staged and quite
believable.

Yes. I remember it. Out in th open on some plaza with lots of chase in the
fight. And lots of screaming. I think it's got something to do with acting
credentials, but all the stars seems to get to do one big fight scene in
their careers, then alas no more. Maybe it has something to do with aging.

Ever seen any of the old Westerns with Katy Jurardo as the darkk force
usually tangling with some prim frontier blonde? Never much more than a
slap and some hairpulling, but I kept thinking about those cowboy boots
the women wore beneath those long long skirts.

Oh well. It should get better. Right?

Well, this is usually the type of thread I expect in the cult-movies
group, but I'll still bite.

My pick is a Hong Kong film called ANGEL, starring Moon Lee and Yukari
Oshima (my fave HK actress, even if she is Japanese :')). The ending
fight between the two has to be seen to be believed (I'm amazed that
both lived through the stunts!). Anybody who
says that there are no great action heroines have not seen films like
ANGEL.

So where might one find this delectable flick? Perchance Blockbusters here
in the heart of the mid-south. It is Elvis country, but I don't know about
oriental films.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance
