Does anyone know who the french singer was who was frequently on the record
player and who was mistaken by Nuke as a mexican singer in the movie
"Bull Durham"? One of the songs seemed very familiar, and they all had a
world war II-esque feel to them. I would like to get those songs on CD if
possible, and if anyone is familiar with that singer, I would appreciate it
if they could pass along the name of a good disc to get. Thanks.

The singer was Edith Piaf. The song's title is "Je ne regrette rien"
or something like that.

Or "La Vie en Rose", probably her most famous song. I beleive it was in Bull Durham, along with the aforementioned one.

Edith Piaf (or the little sparrow as the French called her) is a wonderful
singer! If you're interested in her, there's a movie called "Edith and
Marcel". The film itself is about her love affair with a famous boxer
(Marcel something... sorry I'm not into boxing.), but the actress that
plays her sings much of her music. It should be pretty easy to find her
albums in many record/CD stores too.

The boxer's name is Marcel Cerdan. He was the middle weight champion of the
world in the late 40's early fifties, lost his title to Jake La Motta and
was killed in a plane crash as he flying to the US for the re-match (ref.
Raging Bull where Cerdan (or rather the actor playing gim) makes a brief
appearance). The song La Vie en Rose was written by Piaf for him. The film
"Edith et Marcel" is by Claude Lelouche of A Man and a Woman fame and
stinks. It really is quite bad....try something else by him (hint: A man and
a woman).
