According to the IMDB the new BATMAN movie has some scenes shot in
IMAX. The rest of the movie is
anamorphic Panavision. Does anybody know what the story is here?

WIRED and other magazines have articles on it. When the movie is shown
in IMAX, the IMAX sequences are displayed in the full frame 1.44:1
aspect ratio. When it is shown in conventional theaters, the IMAX
sequences are extracted and cropped for 2.40:1.

Wally Pfister said that he shot one scene with the IMAX camera hand-
held. None of the IMAX scenes have live, synced sound because the IMAX
cameras were too noisy. Pfister recommended seeing the movie at The
Bridge IMAX theatre in L.A..

All the U.K. IMAX screens are showing it and taking a hefty advance
ticket fee as well. The preview on the new Batman Begins Blu-Ray features
some of the IMAX footage.

And the rest of the film is shown in 2.40? So the AR switches
throughougt the film? Seems like that would be a distraction, but
perhaps better than the alternatives.

Has anybody seen it yet at an IMAX venue? What is the real experience
like?
