That sounds like setup or maintenance issues with the projection
equipment. The print I saw was solid - sharp, stable and properly
focused image with plenty of light on the screen.
It was in one of the bigger multiplexes in town, which normally might be
cause for concern, but this particular venue has one room that
apparently has 70mm gear permanently installed. THE HATEFUL EIGHT and
DUNKIRK both ran in 70mm there previously, and those presentations were
similarly nice. It's not the biggest screen in the multiplex but it's
decently large.
They clearly have someone on staff that knows how to run large-format
prints properly. Not sure what kind of projection equipment they have,
but I hope to get a peek into the booth and chat with the projectionist
one of these days.
