Folks who follow silent films have been annoyed for years by an author
on IMDB who amuses himself by posting reviews for lost films as if he
has actually seen them. It's evident that he works from skeletal
information found in a contemporary review, but loads up mistakes
in his fleshing out from there. Some people occupy themselves
with being jerks because it's all they can do, & otherwise have
no method of social interaction.

My curiosity piqued, I made the following fascinating discovery
online:

It's the screenplay, credited solely to Robert Bolt. I've only glanced
over it, and see no reference to a scene where Lawrence and Sherif Ali
jump into quicksand together. (It's still theoretically possible that
such a scene was filmed, but it's not in the script.) It's interesting
to note the subtle changes in dialogue between page and screen. The
screenplay actually makes a bit of a mistake; in it, Col. Brighton
knows Lawrence's name when he first sees him, but there was no way he
could have known; Lawrence hadn't told Ali what it was.

The other alternate versions entries on the IMDb also intrigue me.
There have been reports that at least one original 222-minute
"premiere version" print of LOA still exists (had Robert Harris been
able to get his hands on it, that would have solved most, if not all,
of his problems in restoring the soundtrack). I guess seeing it would
be the only definitive way of double-checking the reports of still-
missing scenes.

By the way, I'm the IMDb user who contributed the entry about Michael
Wilson getting his name into the newer prints of Lawrence. I'd like to
know how they printed that in, especially on a lap dissolve.

They almost certainly would have re-done the entire titles optical.
Either they would have used the original 65MM Interpos which would
have
formed part of the original "optical make-up" along with the high-
contrast titles.
Alternatively they (assuming they still had the original negative)
woulsd make a new
interpositive and and re-do the titles for the screeplay and make a
new inter-negative.
