Hey,

The Archers -- Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger -- first film as
a team. Based on the memoirs of a SOE operative who -- along with the
Cretan resistance -- kidnapped and took Heinrich Kreipe -- "The
Butcher of Crete" -- to a submarine and then to Cairo during World War
II. There are tons of these kinds of films out there and some are
better than other and I'd recommend this one before, say, Fritz Lang's
1950 "American Guerrilla in the Philippines." Some nice stuff going on
among the characters that still works after the propaganda aspects
have faded.
