My director is nervous about paying a $300 fee to this fest. I am
completely out of the festival game, so can anyone tell me it's
okay? Thank you.

"Something suspicious: There's a festival in New York, the New York
International Independent Film & Video Festival, that has a $300 entry
fee, but claims to be FULLY REFUNDABLE if accepted. I've talked to the
woman on the phone who's the contact person, and she verifies this is the
case. Sounds fishy to me, but she faxed me some press clippings verifying
they (or another festival of the same name) are a real deal."

Yes it is a festival.....but the running of it was very inept. Was just
there in Feb, and it turned into a film, video, and ARTS festival. The
hype for the opening festivities at Madison Square Garden should be
avoided, as it came across as a street fair that got lost. In our group
of five films (2 films and 3 on tape) ALL 5 were stopped within 3
minutes of starting, followed by futzing and then restarting. Painful,
as a filmmaker, to view. Suggest you get the AIVF festival guide at
AIVF...304 Hudson St NYC 212 807-1400. Lists ALL the festivals, AND
reviews and opinions of many of them.

Best of luck, even as I remain,

yrs in silver,

Zorba

PS: Most the 'better' festivals have NO entrance fee
