Use a flame from a match, lighter, etc to burn away the coating.
Should solder up fine after that.

And a nice dip in the flux will help too
Use a fairly hot iron and hold the solder to it a little longer than
normal. The enamel will burn away and the solder will stick.

Indeed, I typically create a "blob" of molten solder on the
tip and run the enameled wire through it. It boils off the
enamel and tins the wire in one pass, IME.
Someone suggested using Flux.... no way, never on this type of
"Electronic" work would I ever use an acid flux...
Hot iron =75 watts... I use a 40 for cables which will work as
recced... 60/40 solder.
I like richards "blob" description... works for me. I do use a piece
of heat shrink to cover my blobs when I can...
No of course not. But "flux" does not mean "acid".
Most modern electronic solder includes a kind of
flux appropriate for electronic soldering.
Late to the party but what you want to use is rosin core solder with low flux
activity, or RMA flux. Acid flux...never.
