I am using a Sound devices 442 mixer on a television show at the
moment.

When asked to do this show I found a need for a cable from the mixer
to the Sony Digibeta camera.
What I bought was a PSC BETA SNAKE designed for this exact purpose.
The first unit I purchased seemed OK for about 3 weeks, then it became
microphonic. Bad.
I replaced it with a cable from the same maker. The actual cable was
different(generic). The first cable was Mogami cable.
After about a week of use the second cable literally fell apart at the
mixer end. The tiny set screw was gone (no loctight) and bare wire was
visible. A total disaster narrowly averted with red electrical tape to
hold the thing together. I ordered yet another cable.
It came same as the second(generic) but the hirose at the mixer end
didn't fit (it was tweaked).
I went to the sound store and personally exchanged both of the bad
units for a new cable. That new cable is slightly microphonic on the
return side.
To say the least PSC must have a QC issue. The cables were not built
well. The UV sleeve didn't extend into the connector instead it
extends to just under the rubber collar on the connector.
Mirophonic. Why?

I then did more research. I had to find another cable. I found the
cable XL-10 on the Sound Devices site. I Ordered it.

What a world of difference. The XL-10 is a truly beautiful made cable
with top of the line components. Same price.
The cable built by AVcable.com for Sound Devices has the following
features:
Low capacitance, highly-flexible Belden multipair cable with superior
EMI rejection.
Neutrik XLR, Hirose Multipin, and Switchcraft right angle 3.5 mm
connectors
In-line Hirose connections allow extension segment to be removed—no
extension length is needed
Strain-relief shrink wrap at all connector points.

Try as I might I cannot find Specifications for the PSC cable.
What can I say? The AVcable.com Cable simply out performs the PCS
version in every area except weight.
The PCS cable is lighter.

I am writing this so that should you ever be faced with the same
decision you will be better equiped to make an informed decision.

To expand, all three of my cables made by Remote Audio in Nashville are
also perfect.

Peter Engh in Minneapolis has been my cable maker for almost 8 years and I
would go out on a limb and say his work is some of the best in the business.
