CVS offers them - 'twin beads' in beauty industry parlance - online,
here:
<http://www.cvs.com/CVSApp/cvs/gateway/detail?prodid=347155>
Free shipping with orders > $30.
Ordered two packages of the small baubles and 3 of the large, but 5
packages of the small size arrived. Guess they're out of the large
ones.
This company offers the large twin beads for sale:

Really prefer Goody products to the other brands out there.
Anybody finding these items elsewhere?

i use them to keep cables wrapped, as strain relieve on break away
cable connections to the camera, keep my extra headphone cable out of
my way and a bunch of other things
I think they went the way of the "Clackers".
Here are some photos to give you an idea of how I use 'em. As I eyed
the cart for photo ops, it seemed like the darned thing was held
together with baubles.
Like socks at the laundromat, they disappear one by one:

Thanks for the suggestion, Whitney. Avoid Walmart, which is why I
haven't seen them there.
Called Goody. They're coming out with new, more competitive product
lines and don't find much interest in the plain old twin beads any
longer. Yes, they may be going "The way of the Clacker."
The customer service rep is sending along the contact information for
their 'small sales' division. Glad to have it. Just in case
procurement gets more difficult.
Thanks for chiming in, MOS re: availability in the NY Metro area.
Thought I might be going crazy or blind.

Well, I use them to keep the hair out of my face, as anybody who knows me can
tell you...

Who does not have enuf hair to need a Goody Bauble or any device of
that kind.
I don't think there are any surviving photos from the Plistocene Era...

You guys crack me up!
Have you checked out Duane Reade? I regularly buy those same baubles
there, but it has been awhile...

Here's a link to an image of the customer relations letter from Goody
stating their current box store distributors. Scunci has basically
taken over the hair accessories market and discontinued making their
far-inferior twin beads:

Twin Trader - I don't know this store
Peytons - or this one either
CVS - they alway seem to be out of stock at the 3 CVS stores in my
'hood
Food Lion
Meijer - heard the name but none I know of locally
AAFES - AAFES?
Anyway, send me images of your baubles in action for Ms. McCorkle of
customer relations to forward to marketing. Perhaps we can make their
day with a few photos from interesting sets / uses.
Personally, I'm using this Goody thing as an excuse to take portraits
of sound geeks (with baubles):

I can help you here.
That stands for Army & Air Force Exchange Service.
Essentially, it is system that supplies a BX (Base Exchange) or PX
(Post Exchange) on a military base. Think of them as the corner
store. So, if you know someone in the military, that is where they
shop.
Have a GREAT DAY!!!

Hey, Jay,
Do you mind if I take a screenshot of that page then link to it from
Flickr for Ms. McCorkle @ Goody? I think this is going to make
someone's day over there...esp. if we give 'em images like yours -
from a book - and from some cool locations :)
Thanks! At the very least, you made MY day.

I don't really mind, but would prefer if you just send her the link to
my site... that's why I put up the page yesterday. If you're or she are
going to distribute, include my copyright notices.

I find the hair baubles too lightweight and not as practical as
'toggle bungee straps' which are more heavy duty.
These are excellent for securing cables, strapping a Tx to a boompole,
or anywhere where the bauble would be too flimsy.
These can be sourced in the UK from Tent supply companies, and my local
store actually makes them up to the size I like, while I wait, for as
little as about 30 cents each.I would guess that they should be
available from camping stores in the States
For an idea of what these look like

No problem, Mr. Rose.
Just so it's clear, the point of taking the screenshot at all is to
collect images toward making a short slideshow of said images
featuring this unsung hero of film and television. The link at the
Flickr page would lead to the URL you specify and include supporting
copyright text. Should enough images from various sound geeks arrive
to make a slideshow worth while, the credits would similarly show you
and anyone else who plays as contributors.
Best,
Jan
You know, I bought some of these years ago and couldn't find a single
practical application for them, though I tried. The customization you
mention makes it infinitely more likely that they would find a place
in the cart workflow. Will drag them out for this next show and see
what they can do for us.
Cool.
Jan
