Hi all,

I keep seeing Mandy postings for what seem to be legit jobs, and they
usually have something like "If you are listed on ProCrewBook.com and
have already been contacted by "XYZ COMPANY" it is not necessary to
submit on this posting."

You guys think these are fake jobs by procrewbook trying to fluff
themselves up? The fact that they all capitalize it as
"ProCrewBook.com" is a hint to me - most normal people would write
"procrewbook.com." Plus, the site has like 15 members for each
crewing department. It seems like a NY411 or Kemps knock-off.

Anyone know anything about this?

Is that sarcasm or are you serious? Hard to sense tone over the
internet.

While not a scam (because you don't lose any assets, excluding your
time), it's not a "real" directory as far as I'm concerned. I signed
up about 6 months ago and have come to the conclusion that they're
just in it for whatever ad revenue they can get their hands on, which
I'm guessing isn't much. Don't waste your time, unless that's all you
have, of course.

I believe there is a sign-up fee, though. So you have that to lose,
no?

perhaps there is now, or maybe in certain markets. I never paid
anything.

I can tell you from my own experience that Procrewbook is not " a
scam". I have booked at least a dozen jobs from the site over the
past few years. Maybe people just don't want to hire you or you are
in a city which doesn't have much action. I know many people who use
the site who have had positive experiences and booked paid jobs.

I used it when I lived in NY and now I live in LA. Like, I said it
worked for me but then again I'm very good at what I do and don't
price myself out of the market.

How nice for you. You are so very good at what you do that you need
to work thru a
"warm-body" crew service that takes a fee, wants you to not contact
clients directly
and then work for below market rates? How much work did you do thru
this service?
What sort of jobs? What sort of rates? If you want to convince us
that this service
is a good thing then how about some hard info?

thanks

SPAM it is!!!
I got this in my inbox today:

Sorry for the informal group email and forgive me if you've already
received this but I'm not sure my email is working! It's now Wednesday
and I'm in Dublin before leaving in a few days to work a couple weeks
in Paris. I'll be back March 23rd and ready to get back to work. The
company I work for is crewing a big production for which I'm helping
out so if you are in town from April 6th until May 5th, it might be
something you'd like to submit for. The details are below so get back
to me ASAP if you're interested. Also, if you're on procrewbook.com
please let me know!

Cheers! Joanna

Hahahha. I got the same email and figured that it was someone that
got my info from a job I had submitted for on Mandys (I've submitted
for so many it's hard to keep track). So I replied to "Joanna" and
got this as a response:

Dear Jason,

Thanks for your submission! Also, please let me know if you are on
procrewbook.com under sound mixers as the producers use it quite a bit
when hiring so I like to note the submissions.

Cheers,
Joanna

That's when I called shenanigans, did some snooping and found this
thread.

You guys are silly. I got the same email about the 5 commercial. I
read all this and decided to confront them. It's 100% legit and my
friend gaffed a shoot for the same people last month. "Joanna" works
for a production company owned by the company that also owns
procrewbook! She even told me... "It is certainly not mandatory to be
on PCB but if you are please let me know" -- What is the scam guys?
I think you scammed yourselves out of work LOL!

Hey Matt is that your real name or is it Joanna? Anyways so I see this
is your first post in RAMPS ever. So You apparently got the gig right?
BTW, Where are you located? Paris, London, somewhere in the US???
What's the scam? silly you... You're so obvious.

HAHA. I didn't say I got any gig. And yes, that was my first post
because frankly it's the first time I've felt I could contribute
something. Why is everyone so damn hostile? Now I know why I don't
associate with fellow sound mixers. Too many Ass***s!

You conspiracy freaks have been listening to too much Art Bell! LOL!

****From the FAQ on Procrewbook... http://www.ProCrewBook.com/faq.html

Q: I was contacted by a company who asked me if I was listed in your
directory? Do they work for ProCrewBook?

A: It has come to our attention that some companies, including
companies which are owned by our parent company
use our site as a hiring tool and may ask you if you are on our
site. These people/companies do not work for
ProCrewBook but have most likely integrated our beta-hiring
software into their work-flow and ask so as not to
contact the same people more than once.
