Hello,

Does anyone know how to wire a TA3F to XLR cable for connecting the SD
442 Direct outs to SD 744T Inputs 1 & 2? If so, do you also know how
to wire the TA3F to TA3F cables for 442 Direct Outs to 744T Inputs 3 &
4?

I recently purchased TA3F connectors to make custom cables, but this
is a cable I can't find any information for. I just pulled out the
solder kit 30 minutes ago to start building the cables when I noticed
that Pins 2 & 3 on the TA3F connector are in a different configuration
from the XLR connector, so I decided to google the schematic and found
nothing.

I will call Sound Devices tomorrow to ask, but it seems that they're
keeping this information sacred. I don't blame them. We are still in a
bit of an economic crisis. But I, like many of you, like to make my
own color coded custom cables.

If anyone knows how to make these I would love to learn.

Thank you,

E. Santiago

Ok everybody. I did some reading into the manuals for both devices and
the connections on the XLR and TA3F connectors are the universal
standard. Pin 1= Ground; Pin 2= Hot (+); Pin 3= Cold (-). I can now
make my (OCD/ADD; same thing) color coded custom cables. I'm sure most
of you knew this information, but I'm new to the use of the TA3M
Output connector. I've never had the need to interface with it until
now, so I just learned something wonderful.

I hope this very short thread is something wonderful for someone else.

Happy soldering, and have fun making (sound for) movies,

Solder all the pins 1 to 1, 2 to 2, and 3 to 3. Configuration on the two
connectors are different but function on both is the same.

1=Shield
2=Hot
3=Cold

I forgot to mention the TA3M Direct Outputs on the 442 are selectable
between Mic and Line Levels. The 744T XLR Inputs 1 & 2 accept Mic and
Line Levels, while the TA3M Inputs 3 & 4 accept Line Level only. TA3M
Outputs on a PSC AlphaMix are also Line Level, just in case you're
planning on using the AlphaMix to feed four channels to a 744T. So
remember to set your outputs of the 442 to Line Level so Inputs 3 & 4
of your 744T get the proper signal.

Again, basic stuff for most of you, but some of us have only begun to
work with the 744T along side out 4 channel mixers.

Have fun making (sound for) Movies
