Ace Ventura Pet Detective - Question

Please help my friend and I settle a difference of opinion. We were watching
Ace Ventura the other day and in the scene wnere he goes to the party and he's
at the door. When the butler opens the door he greets him as Captain Stubing.
My friend seems to think that the butler IS the actor who played the real
Captain Stubig on the Love Boat (Gavin McCleod).

First time I saw Ace I thought so too, but after seing (a few
episodes of) Love Boat and Ace a second time I don't think so any
longer.. I'm not sure though..

lackey opens the door of a billionaire's mansion and Carrey says
"Hello Captain Steubing, how are Gopher and Doc?" I had to do a lot
of research to answer this question. (I actually had to get the video
out, make sure that no one had rewound it, run the end credits and
freeze frame it from time to time. What I go through for pure
research.) I determined that since Gavin MacLeod's (sp?) name is not
in the credits that he was probably not in the movie.

The fact that there isn't even a credit for the butler makes me believe more that its Gacin
