Lots, but I think the tendency is to stay away from that sort of thing
unless you want to invoke a particular time - i.e., mentioning various
rock singers in "Grease"..

Brigitte Bardot, French sex symbol has 2 songs completely devoted to her: a
South American (don't excactly know what country) song "Brigitte Bardot"
and in a Serge Gainsbourg's song "Initials BB" (maybe more songs...)

The exact title is "You Made Me Love You" (James V. Monaco (1913)
was rewrittenm with a special part for Judy Garland to sing at a
Birthday party of Clark Gable and made such an Impression, that
it was put into Broadway Melody of 1938.

"You are my Lucky Star"(Brown - Freed) features in it's 2nd verse,
as sung by Robert Taylor in that movie following line:
... You are my Hepburn, Crawford, Shearer and my Garbo,
you are my Lucky Star

There's also the Finale from Take Me Out to the Ball Game (Williams,
Kelly, Sinatra) that brings the names of the stars closest rivals,
Astaire, Garland and Bing Crosby)

An Irish band named Stump did a song called "Charlton Heston". I was
sorta impressed with the line "Charlton Heston put his vest on."

Did "Tippararie" (horribly misspelled) have a line about Harold Lloyd? Or
did Crow just make that up during "MST3K - The Movie".

Speaking of MiSTies - There's "Kim Cattrall", "Ode on Estelle" (for
Estelle Winwood), "Godzilla Genealogy Bop" (does he count?) and, of
course, "(Let's Have) A Patrick Swayze Christmas".

Sorry about getting silly.

I stand corrected. I guess I'm showing my age (late 20's), and as such am more
familar with the Bowie version. Not to mention I heard Bowie's version on the
radio while reading the newsgroups, so it was fresh in my mind.

Yes, he did.
Other songs that mention film stars include "Rock On" by David Essex who
sang about James Dean, and John Prine who also sang, "James Dean went
out to Hollywood got himself in a picture show." on his song, "Picture
Show."
Also, the obvious, "Candle in the Wind" by Elton John, and "Roy Rogers"
by him, too.
Then there is Bananarama, who did the song, "Robert DeNiro's Calling."
And Al Stewart, who mentions Peter Lorre in "The Year of the Cat."
I'll come up with some more, but I'm tired.

I know that "Bette Davis Eyes" has been mentioned, but there were also a
couple of parodies of it: "Sammy Davis Eyes" and "Marty Feldman Eyes."

And Cole Porter's "You're the Top" had the line, "You're the National

Just joined the thread too. This one's probably been mentioned. "Mack the

Not to put too fine a point on it, but Lenya is mentioned only in a
version of the song that was recorded by Bobby Darin, who also recorded a
little classic called "Splish, Splash, I Was Takin' a Bath." She was not in
the German original or the canonical English translation. (Personally, I
always treasured the recording of Ella Fitzgerald live in West Berlin
forgetting the words and singing "I've forgotten the words" and then
filling in with some marvelous scat singing until she got to a part she
remembered -- such presence of mind.) Lenya was in the original Berlin
production of "The Three-Penny Opera" that "Mack" comes from, btw.

It's shame that in her busy stage career she could not have found the time

A version of "I Can't Get Started" that Maynard Ferguson sings replaces the
quoted line with "I've been invited to tea with the queen / Linda Lovelace,
she thinks I'm obscene..." A different kind of film star, of course.

Furthermore, the Kinks' "Celluloid Heroes" mentions Marilyn Monroe, Mickey

A major orchestral work worth mentioning in this context is French
