I'm looking for the title(s) of a series of films made in the Soviet
Union in the 1980's. These films are supposedly the Russian
equivalent of the American Rambo films. There were, I believe, three
of these Russian films made.

I've called many Russian video stores, have scoured the web and usenet
postings, and have emailed quite a few people, so far to no avail.

So....what are the Russian "Rambo" films called?

(It's not Brothers or Brothers 2)....

Thanks!

I know who you mean, but can't think of the name. Major somebody, I think.
I remember a proposal a few years ago to make a "Rambo vs. Him" movie,
which would have two endings: one for American release, where Rambo wins,
and one for Russian release, where their guy wins. (Wish we could settle
wars that way...)

Have you tried searching on "Rambo and Russian"?

I've searched every combination one could dream of (russia and rambo
soviet and rambo, russian and rambo....) I DID hit a couple that
looked quasi-promising--Last Journey or Detached Mission (don't know
what the Russian titles are), but neither looked as if they were
"sequeled", if that's a word..

Stallone knows, if you could get the question to him. You might try asking
Roger Ebert.

There was a Russian action star (I'd never heard of him) who died in
an avalanche while filming a couple of years ago. I wonder if he was
involved in these movies.

That was the star of the Brother series. A quick IMDB search will give you
his name and the basics on the Brother series. From memory the first one
wasn't very Anti-American but for Brother 2 they came over to the US and
filmed on location here and had a relativelty Anti-American tone..
