To this day ... here in Northern California ... I see the occasional
right-hand drive Riley, or Morgan, Rolls, Daimler or Bentley. These
were not made for export ... but originally purchased in Ireland or in
the U.K. and got to travel with their owners.
But ... what kind of car was it?
Even Sweden IIRC had right-hand drive
until the 1960's. The first driver dead there from going opposite the
traffic after the laws had been changed ... was a Swedish policeman.
And ... of course ... Japan still does.
But ... we're speaking pre-war. and if
the country of origin of the car that Bogart was driving was not one of
those ... it sounds like the film got flopped.

What kind of car was it that Bogie was driving in the movie?
Well, he WAS drunk!
Or he was driving an English import. Some people do.

Between wars in Europe car was considered a luxury, and those who could
afford them weren't very choosy. British car, designed for British
market, could have been imported and driven on French roads.

As they should be, in case that wasn't clear.

Viewing the scene on tape, I can't make out this detail. Of course, it
doesn't really prove anything anyway.
> I would assume that it was a rear projection shot, and that the film was

No, no, nothing is reversed. The background shot in Paris correctly
shows traffic driving on the right (the "wrong side" for the original
poster); the foreground, as you see after Paris fades into the country
road, correctly shows Rick's watch on his left wrist, the same as in
other scenes.
Clearly it is the (prop) car itself that they're sitting in that's wrong,
not the special effects. But it's not a serious matter -- as pointed out
in another branch of the thread, it just means that Rick's car was an
import from Britain.

USAn cars are left hand drive though, aren't they.
What sort of car was it? Could have been an Aston Martin or some
other Bristish car (I don't recall).

So why ... "Adam" ... did you bother to answer?
*Sigh*.
The person asked why the car was a RHD vehicle in Paris, where the
vehicle should have been LHD. Which I explained (well offered insight
into possibilities).
The poster did *not* ask what sort of car it was.
Once you learn how to follow threads on Usenet, you'll see that I was
*not* replying to you, o web-tv-person, but reply to Sean in reference
to Daniel's initial post.
>So why ... "Adam" ... did you bother to answer?
One could ask you the same question, really, eh?
