I thought "Angels and Insects" was a really great
movie with incest AND insects AND a shocker of
an ending.

If you've never been there researching movies, by
all means try the Internet Movie Database at...

The Passion of Beatrice (aka La Passion Beatrice), a French flick from
the late '80's, has a very strong and disturbing incest theme between
father and unwilling daughter. You also get to see Julie Delpy buck
naked a lot, which in my opinion makes this film a masterpiece!

I liked "Lone Star" very much. Sayles is an underrated director. His
films do well at the box office, because they are not formula movies.
I also liked his "City of Hope."

THERE IS NO INCEST IN "BLAME IT ON RIO"
Michael Caine's charater is not related to Michelle Johnson.

Sayles has long been one of my favorite screenwriters/directors. Have
you ever seen Return of the Secaucus Seven? This was one of his first
movies and is often compared favorably to The Big Chill.

_The Big Chill_ was made three years after _Secaucus 7_ and clearly ripped off
the story and Sayles. To say the Sayles film "compares favorably to" the
Kasdan film is definitely a case of putting the cart before the horse.

I'm need help remembering the title of a Swiss movie made in the late 80s or
early 90s with a brother-sister relationship. They're trying to survive on
their isolated farm after their parents die. There may be foul play, too.

Thanks.

Here is a review of Blame it on Rio found in The Movie Guide copywrited
by Cinemania:

(The "p" word is disguised to prevent those scum from invading the NG.)

This queasy sex comedy follows two middle-aged men (Michael Caine and
Joseph
Bologna) who spend a month to Rio with their two nubile daughters (Demi
Moore and
Michelle Johnson). Caine's wife (Valerie Harper) pulls out of the trip,
saying she wants to think about their marriage, and then spends a month
at Club Med. Once in Rio, Bologna, who is going through a messy
divorce, heads for the city's nightlife to chase women. Caine is less
than enthusiastic about this but soon finds he's being seduced by his
friend's daughter. At this point BLAME IT ON RIO turns into a most
uncomfortable film, leeringly depicting an affair with decidely icky
undertones of incest and p__ophilia. Between gratuitous (if titillating)
nude scenes and a succession of lame soundtrack songs, there are plenty
of travelogue shots to pad out the thin narrative line. Caine looks
embarrassed through the entire film, as well he might.

It's called, not surprisingly, "Oedipus Rex". "There once was a man
named Oedipus Rex/You may have heard about his odd complex/His name
appears in Freud's index/'Cause he loved his mother..

Here's a review from The Movie Guide copyrighted by Cinemania:

This queasy sex comedy follows two middle-aged men (Michael Caine and
Joseph
Bologna) who spend a month to Rio with their two nubile daughters (Demi
Moore and
Michelle Johnson). Caine's wife (Valerie Harper) pulls out of the trip,
saying she wants

to think about their marriage, and then spends a month at Club Med. Once
in Rio,

Bologna, who is going through a messy divorce, heads for the city's
nightlife to chase
women. Caine is less than enthusiastic about this but soon finds he's
being seduced
by his friend's daughter. At this point BLAME IT ON RIO turns into a
most
uncomfortable film, leeringly depicting an affair with decidely icky
undertones of incest and pedophilia. Between gratuitous (if titillating)
nude scenes and a succession of lame soundtrack songs, there are plenty
of travelogue shots to pad out the thin narrative line. Caine looks

embarrassed through the entire film, as well he might.

I just rented FUN, in which a girl describes being raped by her dad, and her
friend tells her she had sex with her brother.

Great film - and no, I'm not saying that because of the above. ;)

But what about Dead Again. If I remember correctly, not only do the
scenes change but they change from color to black-and-white and it just
seemes natural.

Phew! I did think that when I saw the title in the list, but since I
haven't seen the film for yonks, I wasn't sure.

What about that film by Barbra Streadful - NUTS?

If the brother was deaf, then it has to be Alpine Fire.

(Mind you, I may have misspelt the Alpine word).

La Luna (d Bertolucci) springs to mind. It featured a mother/son
relationship. And also a film which starred Stacy Keach and Pia
Zadora featuring a father/daughter relationship which may have
been more suggested than actual. The title escapes me.

Michelle Johnson must have one of the most embarrassing resumes around
of any actress, having starred in both BLAME IT ON RIO and SHOWGIRLS,
among many other turkeys. Anyway, any list of incest in films should
also include Buñuel's VIRIDIANA, and De Palma's nominal remake of
SCARFACE. Also, Pedro Almodovar's LAW OF DESIRE.

Thank you, Catty, that's the one. The original title, I discover in the IMDb,
was _Hohenfeuer_ and was directed by Fredi M. Murer. It's a very dark,
powerful film.

Although I'm sure it was just a typographical error, your

I think the key word is ``undertones.'' I don't remember if the
character is supposed to be a minor, and no, they're not related, but
she's so young and the families are so close that the sense is there,
even if there is not actually any pedophilia or incest. One of those
movies where you suddenly ask yourself, ``why, exactly, am I watching
this?'' and for want of being able to come up with an answer, you turn
it off.

Well, now it seems there are probably more movies with such material
than without. Anyway, add Ingmar Bergman's "Through a Glass Darkly"
(sister/brother), and I seem to recall a French pornographer and his
daughter in La nuit de Varennes. Also "Toto le heros,"
sister/brother, but only as fairly normal childhood inclinations that
have sad consequences. Some folks posting titles in this thread may
not be too sure just what "incest" means :-). Delightful topic.

2) Fool for Love (I haven't seen this one but I heard there was a pretty
