It's kind of a blurry area, though, isn't it? As I understand it,
nudity without any sexual context is fine, otherwise baby pictures
would be suspect and so on, but once sex is involved, you're treading
on dangerous ground. The American Beauty scene was borderline and
controversial at the time but AB had the prestige factor of Spielberg's
involvement and potential Oscar nominations.

I think you've got the wrong cite. _Mapp_ was the case that imposed
the Exclusionary Rule, after police who had a warrant to search
Dollree Mapp's house for a fugitive looked inside containers which
were far too small to contain a human being and found porn, and she
was prosecuted for that. My understanding is that the obscenity
issues in the case were never decided, because the state had to drop
the charges against Mapp after it lost its evidence.
